The DA was lodged for this one yesterday and they want to start construction in July to have it completed by January 2018.

Its Student Accommodation and over 400 rooms. looks to be around 18 levels. Will have more information soon

So... we can expect the Grace Emily will get overrun by uni students?

This is really quite a big site. Hard to tell for sure from the tiny render on the prospectus thing but it looks like it steps down, which is nice. Think this was the intended site for 'Space' (?) but will be good to see something build up that area some more.

Is it 400 rooms or 400 beds though? Docs say it includes 2, 5 and 'twin share' rooms as well as studio apartments so assuming actual number of rooms is quite a bit less than 400?

415 students i believe, not rooms.

This site? https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.926 ... a=!3m1!1e3
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

That new render looks rather nice. Looks like some kind of granite-ish finish, rather than painted pre-cast or aluminium cladding. Hopefully that's accurate.

That's really quite horrible. Take away the nice artificial colouring of the render and you can bet we will end up with painted grey concrete.

Looking at the linked article, the proposal for South Bank at least has a small amount of detail in the design of the cladding.

That doesn't look good at all. There must be policy somewhere stating student accommodation must be horrendously ugly & depressing. Maybe it's to motivate students living inside to excel so they can move out quicker

Horrible

Hideous

Depressing

Cheap

Nasty

A few words that come to mind.

Really? Whilst doubts about the quality of finish are understandable, this is far more interesting than the standard apartment template we get in the CBD.

I personally think if its finish with high quality materials it could be simple and elegant, but with cheap and nasty materials it could equally look cheap, nasty and a 21st century soviet style commie block.

It's in the quality of finish.

A good looking render can be horrible in real life. I call this the Q1 Principle.

I see no evidence from the render that this will be bad.
