Nice thinking Rhino, I like it.rhino wrote:My tip is Northern Expressway, but my preferred name would be Charles Sturt Freeway, from where the divided road starts near Nuriooptpa, (where it's the Sturt Highway) all the way down through the City of Charles Sturt at Hindmarsh. Maybe a different name south of the Torrens.ChillyPhilly wrote:What's everyone's tip on what the final name of the road will be?

I suppose we could name it the, uh, Matlock Expressway?monotonehell wrote:"Not a MATS Freeway"

The name has been announced and is printed all over road signs already in place, it is called "North-South Motorway" aka M2ChillyPhilly wrote:What's everyone's tip on what the final name of the road will be?

Does this mean everything between the Southern Expressway and Northern Expressway will be known as "North-South Motorway" once completed?
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

Southern Expressway up to at least the Superway is going to be known as the M2, the two sections already complete already are the M2.neoballmon wrote:Does this mean everything between the Southern Expressway and Northern Expressway will be known as "North-South Motorway" once completed?
The northern expressway is the M20.
I'll take a guess and say the elevated part of T2T will remain as A13, South Road while the lowered freeway will be M2.
Northern connector, no idea.
Hopefully the whole "freeway" from the SEXY to the NEXY once complete is renamed the M2. Plain and simple.

I don't see why they would have called the completed section North-South Motorway if that was not the intended name for the entire road. It makes no sense to call a random section of road in Wingfield the North-South Motorway.

I agree, but stranger things have happened. Like the Southern Expressway was never intended to be a one-way freeway.bits wrote:I don't see why they would have called the completed section North-South Motorway if that was not the intended name for the entire road. Why not Southern Expressway south of the Torrens, and Northern Expressway north of the Torrens. Simple.
People are already familiar with the names, we are merely extending the existing expressways until they join together.
We could build some kind of portal structure at the part of the expressway above the Torrens (the southern point of T2T) where the expressway changes name from Southern to Northern.
Perth uses a similar naming for its northbound freeway (Mitchell Fwy) and southbound freeway (Kwinana Fwy), with the Swan River as a dividing point. Sounds like a good system to me.
Our other freeways/expressways have the simple naming convention named after where they lead to ... South Eastern Freeway and Port River Expressway, so let's keep this simple naming convention going.

Looks like there will be another southern interchange that wasn't on the DPTI plans.

The yellow line splitting off the Northern Connector appears to be the Edler Smith Drive Intercahnge shown on the old 2008 plan. Given that the current strategic transport plan does not provide for Elder Smith Drive to be extended from Salisbury Highway to Port Wakefield Road within the next 15 years, I cannot see this interchange being built at this time. It has not appeared on any of the recent plans for the Northern Connector. I suspect that someone at Channel 7 just used an old graphic without giving it any thought.nicky94 wrote:Looks like there will be another southern interchange that wasn't on the DPTI plans.

It's surprising that with contract announcement that there's nothing new of substance on the Northern Connector project website.

they're building the site offices on Port Wakefield Road, on the western side just north of Waterloo Corner Road
[COM] Re: PRO: Northern Connector | 14km | $1b
I don't think anyone has mentioned the 23 May newsletter and northbound bike detour for cycling being banned on Port Wakefield Road for two years between the Little Para River and Stuart O'Grady Bikeway. I was expecting more with the announcement, too, but since the contract includes a design component, I guess it takes the successful bidder time to develop the next set of pictures as they will reflect substance..drsmith wrote:It's surprising that with contract announcement that there's nothing new of substance on the Northern Connector project website.
