Werent these guys mucking around with the idea of car stacker? I struggle to see how the economics of such a thing work when you can just dig a hole under the building if you insist on providing a lot of parking.

I have heard a new building is being re-designed for the site as student accom. Ie no cars parks needed. Ps. I assume the problem with digging a carpark underground was the structural challenges - limited size site coupled with the need to keep the ground floor heritage facade/walls.

I am told that Hindmarsh is in the process of terminating their sales agreements with the buyers, Julianne Price and Inspire are trying to convert the buyers into buying The One, Kodo and Central Adelaide.

Wow, I didn't see that coming. No offence to students but I would have thought the east facing part of any building on this site (having awesome and unblockable city views) would have made it a no brainer to keep that side for residential. I also couldn't ever really find many east facing apartments for sale in this proposal when it was on realestate.com suggesting they did indeed sell those out quite easily.

But are car stackers expensive these days? Even that fairly average priced Citi-something near me on south terrace has car stackers.

The price of car stacker varies between $5,000 and $80,000 per car space. The types that were used in Palladium would probably cost $30,000 per space.

Besides of car stacker, I think Palladium should not have the commercial on its lower levels.

Instead of loading all these extra "risk factors" into the project, the developer should have just done something more conventional similar to the ART apartment at 242 Flinders Street.

78 dwellings, 0 carparks, 12 bicycle parks. This sounds all kinds of wrong :2cents:

New 14-storey Light Square apartment tower gets green light, minus the high-rise car stacker originally planned
Dan Jervis-Bardy, The City
January 17, 2018 2:40pm

YET another plan for a high-rise apartment tower above the State Heritage-listed Mission Hall has been approved, lifting hopes the long-awaited Light Square project might finally go ahead.

The State Planning Commission this month signed off on a revised proposal to redevelop 69 Light Square.

The 14-storey development would include 78 apartments and a ground floor designated for “community services”, according to plans lodged with the commission by Light Square Developments Pty Ltd.

However, it would not include a six-level automatic car-stacking system, which was among the project’s major selling points when it was first unveiled as a 15-storey, $25 million development five years ago.

Dubbed Palladium on Light, it was later expanded to an 18-storey scheme, incorporating luxury apartments and offices.

The Advertiser reported in May 2014 that the developer had sold 60 per cent of apartments and expected construction to begin within months.

But work never started and the hall — once a popular city night spot — has been vacant ever since.

Adelaide West End Precinct Association chairman Andrew Wallace said the site had become a “bit of an eyesore”.

“We would like to see the site get moving,” Mr Wallace told The City.

“Nothing has really kicked off around Light Square and it would be good to have some permanent residents there.”

Mr Wallace said the West End had changed significantly since the Light Square project was first announced.

“With the new hospital, things have really come a long way and maybe the developer is thinking about repositioning what they are offering this time around.”

Light Square Developments could not be reached for comment.
