Air New Zealand to operate 787-9 to Adelaide


Already announced but spotted this...

The decision to use the 787-9 to Adelaide will mean a reduction in frequency to three flights a week. However, Air New Zealand said it would add three A320 services on the route during the summer holiday period between December 2017 and January 2018.

If true, not such good news...

Well, better for business class travellers. Also the 787 seats are nominally wider according to Seatguru (not the most reliable source, I know). Also, since the 787 is bigger, it's not such a reduction in available seat numbers overall. It will be interesting to see if there's an effect on fares.

My major gripe is that every time I come home from abroad I always feel uneasy. Our border force can be very arrogant and loud. Some of them seem to have a chip on their shoulder. It could be that Adelaide is such a small place they need to show their authority and not be left behind by their East Coast counterparts. Something I've never felt or been subjected to in arguably the two best airports in the world, Singapore and Hong Kong. Where security is very good. Even in Europe where they are armed with machine guns. Perhaps they're one-offs and someone has had a bad day, but a bit of politeness, a smile and softly spoken words without the barking would go a long way. It's sad.

Anyone else get this impression?

Autonomous vehicles trial - driverless shuttle buses at Adelaide Airport

Adelaide Airport will be the first airport in the country to trial driverless shuttle buses after winning a million-dollar grant from the State Government.

The airport, Flinders University and driverless vehicle supplier RDM Group will each receive $1 million from the Government’s Future Mobility Lab...

Adelaide Airport will use the grant, and an extra $1.8 million of its own money, to trial a driverless shuttle bus service to carry passengers to and from its terminal and its long-term car park.

Adelaide Airport managing director said the fleet of autonomous vehicles would replace the fleet of diesel-powered shuttle buses which services the airport’s long-term and staff car parks.

“Their compact size and agility will enable them to operate on a dedicated path at an increased frequency, potentially operating 24 hours a day, reducing road congestion and significantly lowering carbon emissions."

“The project will include new bus shelters that feature solar PV, LED lighting, CCTV and wi-fi, while the buses will use a dedicated charging station, partially fed by our existing onsite 1.17MW solar PV generation.”

Adelaide Airport has won a prestigious marketing award at the Routes Asia 2017 aviation conference in Japan earlier this week.

Evening all,

Seems to be the wet season in Fiji over October-March Period so travel would be quiet. They stay 2 weekly for 2 month period. Good move FJ in my opinion.

Fiji Airways in Northern winter 2017/18 season is adjusting Nadi – Adelaide route, reflected in recent schedule update. This route is scheduled to commence on 30JUN17 with 2 weekly flights, however this will be reduced to 1 weekly from 29OCT17. except 01DEC17 – 29JAN18. This route is subject to Government approval in NW17

Depending if the can get the scheduling right, I've heard it may be a twice a week service to begin with.

If timed correctly, passengers from Perth could also connect through Adelaide instead of Melbourne.

Currently no direct flights from PER - HBA / LST.
