I’m no expert on the traffic flows of Pym St but don’t understand why the traffic from this side street (rather than attempting to cross South Rd) can’t be directed to Torrens Rd or Regency Rd? Ridiculous to have traffic lights stopping traffic so near the start/exit of the underpass/ freeway.
I agree with Pistol, the trench should continue the extra 200m if crossing there is such a big deal.
The original plan for T2T retained the traffic lights at Torrens Road as well. The scope extended to remove those lights as part of the detailed design, I think it was even after the tender had been accepted. Continuing under Torrens Road makes it more obvious where the end of the freeway will be. If "they" had found a few more million dollars and continued under Pym Street as well, we'd be complaining about having a traffic light pedestrian crossing at the end of the freeway.

There is not presently a bus route along that section of South Road, but there is one across it on Pym Street. If all the passengers who cross South Road are going to/from the city, then it's fairly easy to reconfigure the routes so that they don't need to cross there, but if it is used by people travelling between one side of Croydon Park and the other, a different solution might be needed.

Portable illuminated signs up along the T2T section saying that there will be major disruptions from Sept 4-9, I *suspect* this period will see the resurfacing of South Road (the non-lowered section of road), after all, if you look at the gutters the bitumen doesn't yet level up which usually means there's one last layer to come.

According to t2t website:

Major pavement works at the South Road intersection with Port Road, and on Port Road between Queen Street and Coglin Street.

· Gantry installation in southbound lanes of South Road between Hawker Street and Port Road.

Yes most, if not all of the surface road needs a final layer. This is saved until last so all the constructruction line marking is not visible on the final product. After the final layer of bitumen will be final linemarking and thats it

Any word on when T2T will open?
From a news.com.au article dated Jan 9:

THE Torrens to Torrens upgrade of South Rd will be finished by the end of September, three months ahead of schedule.
The new roadway will open earlier than expected and come in $95 million under the originally forecast $896 million budget, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said on Tuesday.

"This project was due to be completed by the very end of 2018, the end of this year. Now the estimated completion date is by the end of September,” Mr Mullighan said.

Are they still on track for end of Sep opening date? That's an article from nearly 8 months ago ...

A lot of the surface road still needs the final bitumen layers.
Some of the intersections still need their finishing touches, like Torrens road...I assume there will be a curb in the middle..the right turn lanes look like they'll be a lot longer then they used to be. Pretty much needs new curbing/islanding in the middle all the way to Days Road..

A lot can happen in a month.

I received email this morning about the project. It will have a public open day on Sunday 23 September. details

Construction newsletter number 9 says the motorway will open in October, but also talks about staged opening, and two fairly major closures once it has been open, those will be the final layers on the surface road and on/off ramps. So it might be "open" during daytime of the last week or two of September, with reduced speed limits and night/weekend closures for more finishing touches, but won't be open until some time in October, and the project won't be complete (landscaping, finishing touches) until nearly the end of the year.

Another question, Considering the issues that have been happening on the southern expressway with rock throwers, what is being done here to stop copycats?

Having driven past T2T today it looks pretty easy if someone was inclined to cause havoc.

It would be nice if they let you cycle\walk through the entire length of the lowered motorway at the open day on 23 September 2018 (like they did with the Superway). If they are still working on the motorway on that day, surely they can confine the work to just one side leaving the other side open for the pedestrians\cyclists.

There are no large rocks anywhere near the place.

Also hard to throw and hide.

I think that suggests it will be possible, before the main crowd shows up, but they haven't worked out the details yet.

Interesting choice to host it on SANFL Grand Final day

For the Superway open day, you can access the majority of one side of the motorway. The northern end of the southbound carriageway wasn't accessible, nor was the entire northbound carriageway (which was still under construction at the time).
