1957. It was also previously known as the Beacon Building, due to the weather beacon that used to be on the top of it, and I believe it has the distinction of being Australia's first fully air-conditioned "skyscraper" (it was as tall as buildings were allowed to be in Adelaide in 1955, when building commenced).

It's now a horrible eyesore, which should be torn down, and a beautiful glass skyscraper should go up in its place (and in the car park behind it). Heritage my butt.
I do like this design... http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/for ... f=7&t=6130

Your opinion of my opinion is wrong.
BTW hopefully this design makes it better http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/for ... f=7&t=6130

This opinion is what is wrong with some people on this thread.

There is a reason for its heritage which has been explained countless times on this forum.
Guys back on topic please. These comments should be posted in the appropriate thread [PRO] 185 Victoria Square | 110m | 30 Levels | Mixed Use.
BTW... HeapsGood this building has aged very well and is still as modern as it was when first built. Look at the surrounding new buildings and you'll know what I mean.
One of my favourite buildings as a kid marveling at the rounded weather beacon and trying to figure out the lights.
Now back to the GPO Exchange... more photos...keep them coming. Good coverage so far from many angles.
Cheers

Despite my initial reservations this one's growing on me. The glass looks pretty good.

As I hoped, this one is reminding me more and more of 101 Collins Street, Melbourne.

lol how? These two buildings look nothing alike, and 101 Collins is 170m taller.Ser Noit of Loit wrote: ↑Sat Feb 23, 2019 12:36 amYou're right about that.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 5:06 pmAs I hoped, this one is reminding me more and more of 101 Collins Street, Melbourne.
I think it reminds me more of the Pre-Refurb ANZ building on Martin Place in Sydney, similar height, similar prime location right next door to the GPO, simple rectangular box design, and no spire.

Are you colour blind? The facade treatment and window tint looks exactly like 101 Collins. Nothing to do with the height.metro wrote: ↑Sat Feb 23, 2019 12:37 pmlol how? Picture 26/2/2019 some heavy steel work has been installed on the balcony area of level 4 fronting Franklin St.

This is actually turning out to be the nicest of the City Central towers.

Definitely eating my words with this. Still could have been a more iconic design but looks great
[COM] Re: GPO Exchange | 85m | 22 Levels | Office
Just think, the same facade treatment, but with floor plates that had rounded corners. Wouldn't have diminished too much GFA, but lifted the design markedly.
Still, this is turning our better than I first thought.

Seems to me that it's an ordinary design being lifted by quality glazing, amidst other buildings of even more ordinary design with rather low quality glazing. It looks good where it is, but that doesn't necessarily make it good.

Exactly what the site needed. I disagree with the point commonly made that this needed to be an 'iconic' design, and thankfully none of those alternative designs proposed ever got up because they were all very unimpressive.
The iconic building here is the GPO not the office tower. What it needs is a timeless and understated design that compliments it, rather than one that attempts to overshadow or detract from it.
