Federal government is putting $85.5 million towards the Brighton Road (Hove) level crossing upgrade.
It's hard to believe that they wouldn't include a station as well.

Long wait for works
Pedestrian crossing upgrades behind schedule

Railway pedestrian crossing upgrades in the west that are more than a year behind schedule have again been delayed, forcing walkers out on the road to traverse the train line.
Crossings at West and Coglin streets, Brompton, and Queen St, Croydon were meant to reopen early last year with automated gates, but the project was delayed to April this year.
But, due to “signalling issues”, the completion date has again been blown out – this time to October.
In the meantime, the crossing has been boarded up with temporary fencing as the newly installed gates sit unused.
It meant pedestrians were instead walking out on the road in order to traverse the rail line. The works were part of the Torrens to Torrens project, which involved an upgrade of Bowden Railway Station.
Those changes have resulted in a reduction of the line of sight for oncoming trains at the three intersections – meaning automated gates had to be installed to comply with Australian standards.
A Transport Department spokesman did not answer questions about why the opening of the crossings had been continually delayed or why signalling on the pedestrian crossing was different to that of boomgates on the road. He said pedestrians should use crossings on the other side of the street where gates were not needed.
Opposition Leader and Croydon MP Peter Malinauskas said there was “genuine frustration” among locals about the long-term delays at the crossings.
“It’s certainly unsightly and we’ve got a situation where a project that was meant to deliver more safety, years later is looking like we’re in a situation where it’s less safe,” Mr Malinauskas said.
“I’ve been seeking some clarification for months and it finally culminated in a January meeting with the minister where he assured me verbally, and in writing, that the pedestrian gate would be completed in April this year.”
It'd be a good opportunity to move Unley Park station north of crossroad, where the larger population lives (in comparison to Hawthorn which it's in). It would also then be in the suburb it's named after.
It could also be placed under Cross Road, therefore connecting to suburbs & buses both sides of the road.Ser Noit of Loit wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 12:30 amIt'd be a good opportunity to move Unley Park station north of crossroad, where the larger population lives (in comparison to Hawthorn which it's in). With talk of grade seperation at Westbourne Park, should Hawthorn be reopened in exchange for closing Unley Park?
Good solution.claybro wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 3:39 pmIt'd be a good opportunity to move Unley Park station north of crossroad, where the larger population lives (in comparison to Hawthorn which it's in). How often do you think people living on the likes of Victoria avenue catch the train ????It'd be a good opportunity to move Unley Park station north of crossroad, where the larger population lives (in comparison to Hawthorn which it's in). It would also then be in the suburb it's named after.
If they are, can they please just copy-paste the station design for Oaklands?
I think regardless of whatever solution is floated, I legitimately think nothing will be done until Cross Road is upgraded to motorway standard (in whatever form that happens). Then they can kill two birds with one stone: an East-West Motorway connecting the North-South Motorway to the SEF, and an additional grade separated station that interfaces with local buses.Raider wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 3:17 pmIt could also be placed under Cross Road, therefore connecting to suburbs & buses both sides of the road.Ser Noit of Loit wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 12:30 amIt'd be a good opportunity to move Unley Park station north of crossroad, where the larger population lives (in comparison to Hawthorn which it's in). It depends entirely on the plans for Cross Road. There has existed for some time the concept of a non stop motorway link for Cross Road, but In true South Aussie fashion, I can see them redeveloping the station with grade separation, only to rip it all apart again when Cross Road becomes a major East/West link. Either way, there will be significant property to be reclaimed in the vacinity of the level crossing, a much tighter area than Oaklands.Spotto wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 7:56 pmIf they are, can they please just copy-paste the station design for Oaklands?
1. Consistent design across stations.
2. No doubt it would be cheaper to repurpose an existing design template than employing a team of architects to create a completely new design from scratch.
My comments on copying the Oaklands station design was for Hove Crossing, not for Unley Park on the Belair Line which is a very different situation.claybro wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 12:04 amIt depends entirely on the plans for Cross Road.
