There is currently a building by FormeProjex under construction at the first site linked by EBG. I believe the most recent approval posted in this thread by Ben is their next project, which is not yet underway, but will be on the site over the side of the square which currently houses Beaurepaires.

It's Hurtle Square, theres five squares in the CBD, not very hard to learn them Victoria, Light, Hindmarsh, Whitmore and Hurtle squares https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurtle_Square - Halifax is a street.
tell that to our cab drivers....
I lived for some time on Hurtle Square (and my address literally was 'Hurtle Square'), yet in three years I had one single driver that knew where that square was.... Maybe having a whole bunch of buildings with 'Hurtle' written on the construction banners might improve that...

Tractors have been busy this week digging out the empty block next to 60 South Terrace apartments but I'm not sure what development (if any) is planned - that block seems to go by a large range of street addresses.

The planning alerts for that site are two months old and talk about a 6 level apartment block but it looks almost like a duplicate of 60 South Terrace so I don't know if presumably the same owner (as I believe the block was subdivided) is building a similar development or it's just... a faulty cut and paste from the earlier development.

From a construction, structural integrity viewpoint, how do you do that ON TOP of an existing building?

Note I’m not a builder or engineer. Just interested in knowing.

Looks ok, but I'm still wishing that the government will back down from building the new WCH on parklands and take over this whole site.

I'm not a structural engineer but, if the original building has a steel frame it should be straight forward. Like a Meccano set. Reinforced concrete would be a major job as it would require cutting into the concrete columns and adding rebar. I assume it would have to be welded first before encassing it in concrete.

This whole site you mention should be for medical offices. The WCH should be attached to the RAH as close as possible. As for parklands they should remove the police barracks and return that to the public.

I think this building was originally designed to be about 9 stories but was cut back simply to get planning approval. A couple of other buildings in this area have added extra floors since being built.

The Adelaide Riviera was am abandoned office building before having 2 floors added and being converted to a hotel. Also the Adelaide Day Surgery building had an additional floor added, but this happened during construction. Were these the couple you were thinking? I'd be interested if there are more in that area.
