Yes it was a pity Apollo Square was never built in 1970 .It would have been Adelaide's first 40 story office building (taller then any of the current proposed tall buildings). it was to be located at 60 king William st where that fake old building is at the entrance to city cross.
It's a pretty sad reflection on the state government and our economy when a building which was proposed 50 years ago would be taller than all of our current buildings.
At least we are in good company with other "backwaters". The unbuilt Grollo Tower in Melbourne is taller than any of their current or proposed tall buildings, and likewise the Brisbane Central project is taller than anything current or proposed.

Not really a good (for Adelaide) comparison, as Melbourne has had new tallest towers built, has a new tallest being built, and has a new tallest in the pipeline.
Probably a similar story in Brisbane.

If this goes ahead, traffic management is going to be an absolute nightmare being at the intersection of the city's two busiest streets. The construction gantries will have to take up one lane of each street. Major congestion bottlenecks will follow.

No left hand turn from Currie onto King William. I can see the Liberal government getting rid of the bus only lanes in response

There’s a for lease sign where the Adelaide Metrocentre was too now - presume that’s recent?

Why would there be a "for lease" sign if the building is going to be knocked down eventually?

Obviously before it is knocked down there’s still money to be made. Remember, this hasn’t confirmed an operator yet, let alone gone to tender. Any new tenancy could be moved on in the time it takes to actually bring this to demo.

Saw the signs this morning, definitely new. Not promising for this getting started soon.

Unless the 'for lease' sign is just to gather interest for a future ground floor tenancy in the completed building?

Says "Lease period of up to 6 months available" so that at least is somewhat positive.
