I think its getting modified because the underpass begins at the Goodwood Station and the Noarlunga Line starts to go below ground level at the station.

Was done earlier to place sections of the stormwater diversion tunnel into place. They would have done a much neater job if it were proper demolition, not sure when they plan to fix it though.

Goodwood rail services upgrade nearing completion

The major work is now finished for the underpass designed to improve rail services through the Goodwood area in Adelaide's southern suburbs.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said new track was now being laid through the Goodwood Junction underpass.

"Once open to traffic, we will have separated passenger and freight lines to allow for better running on the Belair and Noarlunga services, as well as reducing delays on Cross Road," he said.

The Belair rail service is to resume in a fortnight and Noarlunga services in September.
The Government plans to have electric railcars operating the extended service to Seaford early next year.

The new underpass is 550 metres long and the junction upgrade is expected to cost $110 million.

The minister said more than 250 jobs had been created by the work and it would give Adelaide a key piece of transport infrastructure for many years to come.

Construction of the Goodwood Junction underpass commenced in January 2013, and is expected to be completed September 2013.

Construction of the Wayville Station commenced in May 2013 and is expected to be completed in November 2013.

Construction timing for the Torrens Junction and Leader Street grade separations are yet to be determined.

Just saw this on nation building site would they have to close the rail again in 15/16 ?

oh please no. I bet anything they will find a way to easily keep the interstate line open, but close the Outer Harbour suburban line for a year minimum.

And that really seems a long time to build a basic station, considering they put the concrete edges of the platforms in at Wayville in about 2 weeks. Is it rare, ultra special dirt needed to fill in the platforms with?

So far for line closures we've had:

- The Belair line has stacked up a year of track closures for replacement of the tracks and minor station improvements.
- The Tonsley line closed for over 2 years with no tracks replaced.
- The Noarlunga line closed for over a year with tracks replaced, a few stations rebuilt and an underpass constructed at Goodwood.
- The Outer Harbor line partially closed for 7 months to complete some upgrades to Port Adelaide Station.
- The Gawler line partly closed for about a year with all tracks replaced, 3 stations receiving minor improvements, 2 stations completely rebuilt and the main rail depot re-located to Dry Creek.
- Adelaide Station Closed for over a month to do something that any other city would have done over a weekend.

and here is my prediction for the next round of track closures:

- The Outer Habor/Grange will be closed for 8 months to construct the elevated Croydon Station and South Rd Rail Bridge.
- All lines - terminating before reaching the city for a couple of months for the construction of new medical school facilities west of Morphett St and to install those escalators at the southern end of the concourse, similar to the 2013 Jan/Feb closure.
- Outer Harbor and Grange lines entirely closed for 12 months to build bowden sunken station and torrens jctn.
- Gawler line closed for 6-8 months to electrify and build torrens jctn (but not-in-service trains will still be allowed through to keep the other lines going)

and Perth is making a big deal about a few days of disruption to their network for a massive rebuilding of their city station

Not true. The only closure has been the one since February 2012.

Why? The main reason the main station was closed for a month was to allow the main junction in the city to be completely replaced.

Why not? there's still a lot of old track to replace in the Adelaide yard, and new medical facilities to build over the tracks as well.

Then they can just close a few platforms while the tracks are being replaced, that doesn't require a full station closure. Neither would constructing buildings over the track, as happened with the Convention Centre

Norman, I think the point is here, we have allowed station and line closures for lengthy time at will, they have us all accepting it now, so there is no reason to think in future, when major work is required they will bother with the logistics of juggling lines/ platforms. And re the Tonsley line closure, if it closed in Feb 2012, by the time it reopens it will have been closed for near enough to 2 years, and who knows how much longer now the upgraded stations have been proposed. Given that Perth is managing to underground its entire main station with minimal disruption, not just move some junctions and install wires, I think we are entitled to ask some questions, and demand a better solution that closing down entire lines and Adelaide station in future.

During construction work to replace track running through Goodwood Station, the platform wall on the Eastern most side of the station was undermined. When heavy rain hit the resulting flooding caused a collapse, I've seen pictures, about 10m of concrete wall has fallen over. Looks like a lot more work to do before Noarlunga trains are running again.
