The car park also extends above the existing Sir Richard Williams Avenue, not just on the north side.

My impression was that the multi-storey carpark is to be located further away from the terminal - the large site north of Sir Richard Williams Ave. which is completely cleared and surrounded by temporary fencing. That illustration suggests a new carpark directly above the existing one.
Yeah, you're right. The new 'plaza' will be on the site of the current open-air carpark, with the new carpark adjacent to the plaza. So, yes, that artist's impression is not, um... a very good impression.
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

Its also an old render, not sure why it was used here.

Drat. I was going to say 'yay, it's closer to the terminal than I thought!'. But it's not. So it still gets a boo from me.

Here is an official FAQ on the new development from Adelaide Airport Limited:
http://www.adelaideairport.com.au/asset ... arPark.pdf

And summarised below:
Project value: $100 million

Description: The multi-level car park will provide short-term parking for 2,000 public and
car rental vehicles. It will have direct access to T1 (Terminal 1) via a pedestrian
plaza and link bridge. The passenger pick-up and drop-off points will be located
between the new car park and pedestrian plaza. Adelaide Airport’s road system
will also be re-aligned to cater for the new development.

Location: The multi-level car park will be positioned approximately 50 metres north of T1.
The pedestrian plaza is between the new car park and T1, roughly the location
of the existing short-term car park.

Features include: In addition to short-term parking, the new multi-level car park and pedestrian
plaza will include facilities for rental cars, taxi pick up, bus parking, food and
beverage outlets and small retail outlets.

Capacity: The 2,000 space car park is more than double the size of the existing short-term
car park. It is expected to facilitate approximately 7,000 vehicle entries per day.

Dimensions:
Length: 151 metres
Width: 81 metres
Height: 18 metres - 5 levels

Economic impact: The construction phase of the project will directly and indirectly create 596 jobs,
generating an economic benefit of $87.2 million per annum. Once operational,
the direct and indirect employment benefit will be 87 jobs per year with an
economic benefit of $12.8 million per annum.

Project timing: January 2011: Construction commenced
April 2011: Temporary road diversions take effect
May 2012: Car park opens
November 2012: Pedestrian plaza opens

This is slightly unrelated. I had an idea that site was going to be used by a 'T - 2' for mining flights from SA mines - now said to reach 33 in the not too distant future (incl. ODX). this idea still going?

It appears that the vertical section of the tower is near completion and that the flared section is about to begin construction.

Picture from yesterday:

The height of the tower is already making an impression on the Western skyline, it should become quite a landmark when its topped out :D

Quite a good display has been setup in the T1 Arrivals Hall showing the new development and at the same time encouraging travellers to fly direct to destinations overseas and bypass the east coast cities...

I like the sweeping facade - here's hoping it has architectural merit and effectively hides the carpark from view as passengers exit the terminal. The plaza could truly be oasis-like if the right trees, shrubs, surfaces, furniture & features are used.

What's with the drawbridge-like projection? see lower right corner of this picture. Is it a weather protection shelter for passenger pick up and drop off?

I'd hazard a guess that a part of the reason for the design is such that it allows the construction to go up next to the existing carpark to minimise reduction of already too few carparks during the build process. Once the new carpark is commissioned I'd imagine the old carpark will be torn up and the decoration that we see in the renders will go in.

Yep if they planted the right trees and had good landscaping could look really good unfortunately the render shows only what
looks like to be a few gum trees planted here and there. Please not another Bush Land setting.

What is really lacking in that proposal is the fact they should have done something with moving the Vickers Vimmy
into a new pavillion in the courtyard.
