It's a good site for it, fits the demographics well.

that'd be amazing. All it'd need would be a bus interchange and it'd pass all my books :)

A wave pool for Adelaide, wow! And this comes just as we're about to get a space bowl and another waterslide at Marion. Maybe Adelaide is finally going to start to become a fun place to live.

Wonder what they'll call the wave pool. I've been trying to think of something suitably boring. How about "Salisbury swimming centre", or is that a bit too interesting?

Sounds like a huge project
Wave builds for leisure site

ATTRACTION: An artist's impression of the Kings Road youth hub backed by Salisbury Council.
NORTHERN surfers could soon catch a wave without going within cooee of the coast.

Plans for a FlowRider - a continuous, indoor wave created by high-pressure pumps - have been revealed as part of a push to build a $250 million entertainment hub at the corner of Kings and Main North roads, Salisbury South.

A similar wave machine has been mooted for Glenelg, which could spark a race to be the first to bring the technology to Adelaide.

Salisbury Council voted on Monday last week, March 21, to give initial support to the retail and youth precinct, after the News Review Messenger first reported on the proposal earlier this month.

Mayor Gillian Aldridge said it was one of the most exciting developments the council had ever seen.

“We’ve got nothing like this in the north, let alone Adelaide, so this development will attract a lot of people to the area,” she said.

“We are very keen for it to go ahead.”

The council will now ask Planning Minister John Rau to investigate rezoning the site from industrial to bulky goods.

Draft concept plans for the development were released publicly for the first time last week.

They include:

$80 million youth and leisure precinct, including a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, games arcade, themed mini-golf, indoor rock climbing and skate park;

FlowRider wave pool for indoor surfing, currently only found at Dreamworld, Queensland, and Goldfield Oasis, WA;

$120 million factory outlet to rival Harbour Town in West Beach;

$30 million hardware store;

$55 million wholesale supermarket - possibly run by US chain Costco, which has Australian outlets in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, and;.

$6 million fast-food precinct. :?

The project would be built by developer Jamie McClurg, who did not return calls this week.

So not a wave pool after all then but a flowrider sounds like a good idea anyway. Won't be much use to me personally but I can see a lot of people would enjoy it.

in reality, anything that adds to the list of "things to do" has to be a good thing.

should be built right next to Parafield station instead of a useless 1km down the road.

instead of here

Makes sense to me. But then in this city we're calling Buckland Park a transit-oriented-development :roll:

You do realise that is Federal land, and part of an existing airport. The proposed site has much better access

eh whatever crawf, i think it would be better down by Parafield station.

It just makes perfect sense to me, also considering all these other things have been built on federal/airport land: Harbortown, Ikea, Bunnings, The Bridges - Mawson Lakes..

A little off topic, but out north which centre is bigger/better out of Elizabeth & Munno Para? Is Parabanks positioning itself as the third big centre out north?

Depsite of what anyone thinks of Elizabeth, the Elizabeth City Shopping Centre is probably one of the most newest, modern Shopping Centres in Adelaide. I know people who come from as far as Goldern Grove, Mawson Lakes and the Barrossa to shop there because you can pretty much get anything you need. Munno Para is a bit dated and Parabanks in Salisbury is just a joke.

Interestly Parabanks might soon have to compete with the Engels proposed shopping precinct on Main North Road. Westfield at Tea Tree Gully should also pull their finger out with their proposed redevelopment as the Northen Suburbs are fast becoming the highest growth region in Adelaide.

The Salisbury branch of Curves just closed its doors.
And I still don't know why that abandoned former Sizzler restaraunt is sitting there forever. It's becoming a motorist's worst eyesore.

The road which motorists use are the worst eyesore, if you ask me!

The Salisbury Adult Book Shop closed its doors too! Is it almost too late to save Salisbury?
