Re height / not mentioned to be the tallest;

This will stand at 149m, while the proposed Freemasons tower will stand at 183m anyway.

Obviously that depends on if / when either are built and in what final form anyway.

Inasmuch as the Keystone Tower is counting on AMOSAH to get off the ground, the proposed civic space in this building probably made it all the harder.
I was thinking this too. Not a great outcome.
Agree. Walker trying to take out some competition I feel.

I recall MicBara talking about the Freemasons having some alternatives to fill the void if the museum component falls through. Let's hope it stacks up.

Trees in the park that give year round shade? The horror!

Exactly. I often see people sitting under them. Much better than barren grass.

The lower sections of the Festival Centre could do with covering up - they're not that attractive, in fact the lower levels of the Sydney Opera House are quite ugly. If the trees were a little further down the slope, so that from King William Road we could see the whole roof of the Festival Theatre, which is really where the architectural beauty lies, that would be better IMO.

Whilst I don't have an issue with those gum trees, from historical pictures I've seen it appears the northern edge of Elder Park along the Torrens used to be lined with London Plane trees - perhaps as late as the 1970s/80s.

I presume they were removed when the path was widened which is a bit of a shame as that stretch of riverside path between the KWS and Montefiore bridges is pretty barren in the summer. A row of nice shade trees would be a welcome addition, although I suspect it would be seen to interfere with the use of Elder Park for events.

Also. to be effective shade-wise in the middle of summer, they would have to be between the path and the river.

Whilst everyone's entitled to an opinion, you can see from some responses why this state is the way it is.

That landscape we're talking about, belongs in places like Murray Bridge, not a capital city water front.

This is Adelaide after all, people are generally vehemently opposed to change outside their comfort zones or what they're used to.

Nobody is saying not to have trees, but not some giant gum trees that have been left to grow wild and unmaintained. Never mind the danger they pose from falling limbs on to the walkways below and even the roadway.

If they were right on the edge of the park then they should shade the path once the canopies reached a decent size.

I'm not opposed to trees in the park. Its just that given the prominence of the Festival Center and this precinct in general... iconic for Adelaide , the city gardening managers need to get better at framing views in high profile areas. Scrappy trees left to their own devices since planting do not achieve this. The trees are as much a part of the architecture and the buildings themselves.

about a decade ago councils around town decided they'd go all native for vegetation because water was apparently running out
