[U/C] Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m
[U/C] Re: Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m
I did a drive-through video on Saturday morning when the bridge first opened.

Drove through the other morning, its steeper then I thought it would be based on the renders.
Much needed and about time.
Now if only they got on with a major level crossing removal project across the network.

Interestingly, the 2022-23 state budget included
"10 year level crossing removal planning program
$10 million over two years"

So by the 2026 election, they will have a "plan" to remove the level crossings in ten years. In 2015 they had a plan to build the North South Corridor in ten years, too, but now it won't be finished until at least 2030. $10M is not going to build many new bridges (especially if they want to buy land nearby), so it's only for the plan.

Not necessarily just studies, it could also include preliminary designs and business case development to get federal funding and assessment through Infrastructure Australia.

If there had been a cohesive plan for the entirety of the North-South Corridor instead of tackling each section bit-by-bit as isolated projects, it might well be nearing completion by now.SBD wrote: So by the 2026 election, they will have a "plan" to remove the level crossings in ten years. We need our own version of Perth’s Metronet to tackle ALL future public transport developments as part of a grand vision.

Are those traffic lights on the western side of the overpass going to be there when it's finished? Seems potentially dangerous since traffic will be backed up with traffic coming up the Eastern side not being able to see it.Norman wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 1:30 pmI did a drive-through video on Saturday morning when the bridge first opened.

Yes, they will be there on a permanent basis, hopefully once all the barriers are packed up the sight lines will be better.Nort wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:18 amAre those traffic lights on the western side of the overpass going to be there when it's finished? I still think they missed a big opportunity to remove those lights and have traffic turning onto Churchill Road grade separated from Torrens Road.

Having driven over this bridge now many times, I'm going to predict there's going to be some issues particularly heading west over it towards Chief Street.
Hopefully it's just the current alignment while they finish it off but I dare say there's going to be a few bingles at the bottom near the Chief Street intersection.

Ideally if South Australia Government had rivers of money the railway line should be in tunnel between North Adelaide and Islington. Shops/Apartments built above a new Ovingham Railway Station. Tramline to Kilkenny via Torrens Road. Nearby bury the ring road, people could then have direct access to Adelaide Parklands without needing to cross busy roads.

Some of the ring road intersections should be grade separated too. Jeffcott Rd-Torrens Rd is a good candidate because of the terrain. While we're at it, some of the roads going through the parklands should go underground. Rundle Rd should be underground and then we can expand Rymill Park over the top.Eurostar wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 11:32 amIdeally if South Australia Government had rivers of money the railway line should be in tunnel between North Adelaide and Islington. All well and good but I'd shrink Rundle Road to one lane in each direction (buses only in busy periods)1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 12:42 amSome of the ring road intersections should be grade separated too. We'd could have got close to that with the original O-Bahn tunnel plan (but with Rundle Rd aligned to Grenfell St), but the Parklands Association had to cut their nose off.1NEEDS2POST wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 12:42 amWhile we're at it, some of the roads going through the parklands should go underground.
