The 5 story building at 199 Grenfell St is being renovated. I believe this is linked to the new WCH and the closure of the Police Barracks, with SAPOL moving into the building once complete.

It says they're relocating 500 staff from Mile End to this building because of T2D works. Doesn't say if their shop front the other side of Hindmarsh Square will also relocate but I guess that'd make sense.

They'll also keep 200 staff and signage at RAA Place (state bank tower).

The RAA will relocate a further 500 staff into the CBD after striking a deal to occupy a newly reconstructed office tower on Grenfell St.

A long-term lease has been signed for the former Internode building, at 150 Grenfell St, which once complete, will house corporate staff as well as member-facing facilities and a cafe.

The RAA, which has more than 820,000 members, will relocate to the building in the first half of 2026, departing its longstanding home at Mile End, which was sold to the state government to make way for the Torrens to Darlington project.

Adelaide developer George Kambitsis is currently overseeing a rebuild of the Grenfell St building, with plans to make it Adelaide’s first upfront carbon neutral certified office building.

RAA chief executive Nick Reade said the move supported the organisation’s “extraordinary growth”.

“The move from our Mile End office as a result of the T2D project has given us an opportunity to plan and secure our new long-term home,” he said.

“We’re extremely proud to be moving into 150 Grenfell St, which is seeking to become South Australia’s first upfront carbon neutral certified office building – reflecting RAA’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact and maximise sustainability.

“We’re also working on securing another location on the city fringe to house our technical centre that will offer all the services that our members currently have access to at our Mile End site, including vehicle inspections and our child safety centre.”

The RAA will retain its presence and signage at RAA Place, on the corner of King William and Currie streets, where it currently houses about 200 of its 1300 staff.

The redevelopment of the Grenfell St building involves a full reconstruction, expansion and integration of two existing office buildings into a single tower stretching across 9300sq m.

Mr Kambitsis said he was delighted the RAA had chosen the building for its new city premises.

“It’s such a vindication of our decision to develop a building guided by the highest ESG principles and find in the RAA – a South Australian icon – a tenant who shares in our vision,” he said.

“The central motivation was always to make a workplace that people would be proud to work at with the knowledge that the building would have the smallest carbon footprint, as well as prioritising the health and wellbeing of staff by incorporating innovations not normally seen in modern office buildings.”

The RAA's first ever site was next door to its current store on Grenfell St/Hindmarsh Square. The move from Mile End to Grenfell Street brings it a bit closer to its spiritual home, I suppose.

Funny, I genuinely had Westpac pegged for this site (or the old Telstra building) as they are also on the hunt for a new CBD premises.

Good to see the building will be fully occupied, but it does seem strange that whilst most businesses/organisations strive to centralise their workforce in one location, RAA have done the opposite by scattering their workforce across multiple CBD locations. I would have thought considering there are vacant floors in RAA Place that it would make sense to move more staff there, or better yet, find a CBD office space (existing or to be developed) offering everything they require...
