[U/C] 88 O'Connell Street | 63m | 13, 13 and 15 Levels | Mixed Use
[U/C] Re: 88 O'Connell Street | 63m | 13, 13 and 15 Levels | Mixed Use
These are both worthwhile projects, and in the case of 88 O'Connell I understand the imperative to make back money, but it's a bit sad that neither increase the supply of affordable housing. About a decade ago Council built Ergo Apartments -- this is the sort of project I want my local government to be building much more.
Keep Adelaide Weird

TBH the definition of affordable housing is BS. It's just code word for shoebox studios.

There's still lots of affordable housing/units in Greater Adelaide, unfortunately anyone born in the last 30 years feels so entitled that they are too good to live further than 10kms from the CBD.
Adelaide has the most affordable units in the country.

If you're in a broadly lower paid role like retail, hospo (some), cleaning etc, it would make sense you'd want proximity to the CBD as many of those roles are based there.

So do those workers you mentioned above get paid the same rate living in Syd or Melbs, it'd be pretty similar.gnrc_louis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 9:37 pmIf you're in a broadly lower paid role like retail, hospo (some), cleaning etc, it would make sense you'd want proximity to the CBD as many of those roles are based there.
They maybe live twice the distance from their CBD's and average unit prices at least double of Adelaide?

Which is why a few years ago, there were reportedly issues in Sydney finding cleaners for CBD buildings because of the distance the cleaners had to travel from their outer-suburban homes.Jaymz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:05 pmSo do those workers you mentioned above get paid the same rate living in Syd or Melbs, it'd be pretty similar.gnrc_louis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 9:37 pmIf you're in a broadly lower paid role like retail, hospo (some), cleaning etc, it would make sense you'd want proximity to the CBD as many of those roles are based there.

This is why I get annoyed with some posts in this forum... many are often anecdotal. Where as the unit price in Adelaide being less than half of Sydney is actual fact, that can be backed up by a simple search on the internet.gnrc_louis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:13 pmWhich is why a few years ago, there were reportedly issues in Sydney finding cleaners for CBD buildings because of the distance the cleaners had to travel from their outer-suburban homes.Jaymz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:05 pmSo do those workers you mentioned above get paid the same rate living in Syd or Melbs, it'd be pretty similar.gnrc_louis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 9:37 pm

Sod turning ceremony today. Apparently $110m worth of apartments have been sold. Basement/car park/foundation work to take 12 months and buildings expected to rise out of the ground this time next year.

A long while ago I heard rumours that LeCornu’s old curved windows are in storage and there used to be a plan to incorporate them into the new building.
Is this still the case?
