Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses

I'm a little curious. If you have the apps mentioned on the stop, then why do you need real time info on the stop as well? It's expensive technology to maintain and install, and it's not immediately obvious what advantage it has over an app? Not everyone has a fast smart phone in their hand all the...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Have they laid gauge convertible sleepers to Gawler? If so, then almost the whole network has gauge convertible sleepers. This should be the next project for Adelaide Metro trains. It gives no quick benefits, but will save us from problems in the future. What future problems are you envisioning? Wh...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Maybe there is not enough room available at the Entertainment Centre and along the track to store all those extra trams. Hi, I'm not sure what you are getting at. Why do they need extra trams? Normally some of those trams will be in the Adelaide Railway Station to Botanic Gardens corridor, but if t...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

We really cannot know how many lanes are required until we optimise what we have. There's plenty of cities which move far more people than Adelaide by PT without needing two lanes each way to achieve it. Now, obviously, if bus operation in Grenfell is optimised and there's still a problem, then mor...

There are 3 lanes.....
I meant for buses and trams only. Obviously the third lane stays as you suggest.

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

In my plan for a Grenfell/Currie transit mall the trams would use the inside lanes, the bus stops would be kerbside and the centre lane would be for travelling. There would no bus stops at the same location as the tram stops allowing platforms to be built to service the tram passengers. No private ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

The O-Bahn buses already do all door boarding. Yes, and they now board much faster than before. There are a lot more buses on Grenfell Street that still board at the front. Plus, I am talking five doors vs three. This isn't a big deal, imho. If we want to ease the problems in Grenfell Street, it's ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

So will those big Solaris buses travel through narrow suburban streets? Or are they meant to transport large numbers of people to nodes like Paradise Interchange and Tea Tree Plaza where you transfer to a smaller bus that can traverse suburbia? They are the same width as standard buses. You can hav...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

Working out how to best manage the sheer volume of buses using the Grenfell/Currie Streets PT corridor is always going to be a challenge, IF the one central bus lane in each direction was implemented it is still not clear how to prevent continual bus to bus blockages without bus overtaking lanes at...

Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

Trackless trams are just guided buses. The technology for trailers to follow the unit connected in front has been in use in road trains for decades. Whether the guides are mechanical linkages or optical doesn't really matter. We could call our O-Bahn buses "trackless trams" if we wanted. I...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I don't pretend to know what the Government has in mind as far as promotion is concerned, but there's certainly an argument for waiting till the Gawler line is finished before major action. I can well see that promoting travel now, might get some people to try. However, if that meant travelling to A...
