Re: Beer Garden
So 61.6% of Aussies are selfish, hypocritical, morons and/or twats? 100% of states and territories voted yes. 89% of electorates voted yes. That's some interesting maths you have going on there, Matt (and everyone else who is celebrating an "overwhelming majority"). So, 61.6% becomes 89% ...

Re: Beer Garden
If someone opts to tick the 'no' box and go to the trouble of sticking it in the post, it's hard to conclude that their view is anything but intolerant of my relationship. These people can throw in as many red herrings or excuses as they like - the crux of it is, that's the *one* question they've b...

Re: Beer Garden
This is a question of whether or not to allow same sex couples the right to marry. That’s the question on the ballot, that’s the “debate” we’ve endured for the last few weeks, months, years. Neither the “yes” camp, nor the “no” camp are advocating for the legal right to marry to be removed altogeth...

Re: Beer Garden
"Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?" Fairly straightforward. I'd say simplistic. It's entirely possible to vote no because you believe no one should have the legal right to marry. That would also result in equal legal rights. In fact, it's exactly what Rev has b...

Re: Beer Garden
I have no interest in 'engaging' or 'debating' (either constructively or otherwise) with anyone who believes I should be entitled to less rights than them by virtue of who I love. I'm assuming you mean that there are people on this forum who believe as much. In which case, please quote the exact te...

Re: Beer Garden
Let me start with I support gay marriage. But I like to understand the opposite side of any argument. I actually haven't heard this arguement said but I can assume the people that are against gay marriage are against it because they find it obscene. ... ... ... There is a line somewhere for obscene...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
A few additional points... * A re-opening of the insulation program wouldn't result in any more houses being insulated, because all the eligible houses (within a specified noise contour) have already been insulated. * While jets are indeed quieter now than in the past, they're still undoubtedly very...

Re: Beer Garden
Right-o. So, basically it's a no, no, no, no. I can't for the life of me see how it's a constructive contribution to a debate to be totally and completely inflexible and completely and utterly unwilling to even consider the merits of a conciliatory suggestion. Not to mention, such a closed minded at...

Re: Beer Garden
Mono, we get all that. I think only the hard-core religious would argue that 'marriage' belongs exclusively to religion. The point is that it's a potential compromise. I don't understand why you or anyone else in the yes camp would be unwilling to even consider a potential compromise to what is turn...

Re: Beer Garden
So, change the definition of marriage then? Essentially, remove the fact of marriage having a legal/codified definition at all. It's just an idea -- and not mine. It sounds somewhat reasonable to me, but I'm not particularly in tune with the no camp apart from the 'equality' mantra. Do you :) or :(...

Re: Beer Garden
I'm generally only bigoted towards the more bigoted religious groups. It seems fair. Along with 'extreme/militant left/right', the word 'bigoted' is definitely being over-used in recent times. This employer even thinks it's tantamount to 'hate speech' to suggest people should vote no... http://www....

Re: Beer Garden
It sure does, mate. And that's why I'm advocating civility and respect on both sides of the debate. So, what are the options? Same-sex marriage remains illegal, thus imposing "their rules" on everyone. Or same-sex marriage is legalised, thus imposing others' beliefs on those who don't beli...

Re: Beer Garden
For the life of me, I will never understand how a stick figure can be perceived as being either male or female. It's a STICK FIGURE, for crying out loud. It represents a PERSON. If you can get offended about that, I reckon you'd find a way to get offended about the sun coming up. It's absolutely no ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
I think the biggest shame is the overhead ramp (to departures) will never exist again. I still can't understand the logic. Isn't it worse to combine travellers from both arrivals & departures in the same area? And what's to stop a terrorist driving in a bomb there? Do you know if other airports...
