[APP] Re: PRO| 399 King William Street | ~50m | 15 LVS | Student A

I can remember hearing my chinese tutor from uni saying that she chose Adelaide to live in when she came to Australia because it wasn't cold (unlike big chunks of northern china) and it had the lowest population density of pretty much all the mainland capital cities, and by Chinese standards, it's o...

Re: The CBD car parking thread

Bus services become unreliable when they're overloaded. A bus that can't fit any more passengers on is as useless as one that's cancelled. Where bus stops have Countdown, it's actually worse because it deceives passengers into thinking they can catch a bus soon. Which leads back to the main point: ...

News & Discussion: CBD Carparks

Moderator's note: This has been split from the 58-76 Franklin Street thread. - AtD IMO the amount of carparks being constructed in the city is ridiculous and council needs to amend the development plan to reduce the amount allowed. I would have thought that the most appropriate test for whether the...

I feel a bit like the guy the stupid guy that didn't turn up to planning 101, but I still don't see the appeal. Many of some of the more amazing streets in New York (just as one example) are very canyon like - such as wall st in downtown, which has very narrow streets and virtually no setbacks that ...

I'm still not convinced of the rationale for a set back in a city like Adelaide anyway. Just to remind everyone, we've got no shortage of sunlight in this city, especially in the summer, and not because we've currently got low rise development but because we've got longer and hotter days in both sea...

[U/C] Re: #APP: 42-56 Franklin St | Big ugly car park | 8 levels

I've got to be honest here people, I don't see any problem. More and cheaper parking attracts more people, high end consumers don't generally use PT no matter what, and offering the developer a way to get some sort of return after purchasing a big block right before a downturn sounds better than arb...

Re: #REJ - The Deq - 7 levels - Kent Town

Maybe this will give the developers a good reason to go back to the engineers to find a few more floors to make it $10m, if they have to.

At least the developers might have some confidence in the DAC approving the process.

Re: #REJ - The Deq - 7 levels - Kent Town

And I'm presuming that the DAC's powers only extend over the Adelaide City Council boundaries, and not the state?

(And if this is the case, is this going to be revised in the Greater Adelaide Plan?)

Try telling me that this doesn't grab your attention. Or look better than a blank brick wall. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/87/247653799_7d323c2119_o.jpg (Photo sourced from flickr.com - http://www.flickr.com/photos/xnmeme/247653799/) This of course would be one of the cheapest options for filling ...

[CAN] Re: #APP: Freedom Apartments (Grote) | 30m | 3 x 8 Lvl

Perhaps this is too obvious, but I can't see why the blank western walls couldn't be used as some massive advertising space. The street frontage is enormous, and the amount of traffic down west terrace is about as high as Adelaide street traffic gets. Some tasteful, large scale advertising on a set ...

Can someone please explain to me what the rationale is for setbacks in the first place? And I don't see what is so bad about a building with big 'visual weight' or a flat front to its full height.

Am I missing something?

[COM] Re: #Completed : Adelaide Airport

I think most airlines look at cities that provide the best financial benefits e.g lowest airport fees, biggest tax breaks, etc. Melbourne happens to have the lowest airport fees, hence it is very attractive for a hub. Adelaide is on the more expensive end of the scale, hence the state gov. has to p...

Bloody hell people, some of you really know how to sink the boot into something that really doesn't deserve it. We've got a financial crisis working its way through the economy, a 20,000 sqm office space building proposal with what looks like a reasonable design and all you lot can do is gripe that ...
