Re: New City Arena

Quick back of the envelope maths:

825,000 visitors annually, a build cost of $663,000 and according to proponents in this thread, such venues have a lifespan of 30 years.

Those numbers mean that for each visitor to the venue over its estimated lifespan, the government is paying $26.75.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

It feels tired because it's so clearly under-utilized. The food court constantly sheds tenants because the rent is so high compared to the amount of customers passing through.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

If Australia had been looking to reduce emissions 30-40 years ago then Nuclear Power would have been a good choice. However nowadays we could have most of the grid converted to renewables long before the first power reactors would be coming online.

I think everybody is overreacting about our health system. Labor established a decent health precinct that blew out the budget and now all the health sector want is money. As soon as you give them an inch, they want a mile. Tell us you don't know any Ambo's without telling us you don't know any Amb...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

Stop encouraging people to move to Mount Barker and build housing around the existing underused stations. There's plenty of land around the Gawler line that's vacant and could be used for housing. Stop encouraging people to move to gawler. Encourage people to move to either of them, but only if at ...

We absolutely need more rail in this state ( and better) But surely, when you move to somewhere with Mount in it, you might understand why no one is in a rush to built it to you. Express buses surely are the better option here? Sent from my SM-A505YN using Tapatalk Express Buses would also be bottl...

This is back in the news today, with the transport minister saying he's going to get a more detailed breakdown of the cost predictions.

So once the crane is down and the work site clears, what will the council's next excuse for delaying the Frome St bikeway be? Likely talk about how the site on the other side of Frome St is slated for construction works. I'll eat my hat if the bikeway ever makes it down this section of Frome betwee...

Tunnels might be more expensive, but this is the least visually intrusive method of completing the project for once and for all. It guarantees safety of key heritage along the route, with Labor earlier campaigning for protection of Thebarton Theatre. Labor could claim a small win for themselves wit...

They'd better be leaving a reserve for a train line...
By the time that comes around the developer will be long moved on and the government of the day can pay much more setting up transport options than if it had been prepared for from day one.

Yeah heck no.

The raised road worked well for the section between Regency and Salisbury Highway because it's primarily industrial, completely different context here.

How can anyone living within 100m of South Road seriously still be surprised when their house has been nominated for compulsory acquisition? Agreed. No sympathy for them at all. They knew this was coming years, if not a whole decade in advance. That's more than enough time to plan for relocation. A...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

I'd personally love to see the uniqueness of the parklands embraced by bringing samples of things from around the state into them. This is a great idea! The aboriginal art centre in Lot 14 could be incorporated into this too. Exactly. The way they seem to be planning to blend more seamlessly betwee...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

The parklands are an amazing asset for Adelaide, even if parts of them are currently under-utilized. I'm not someone who thinks they should all be manicured lawns or native scrub, however they should be utilized as the unique asset they are. Apartments and the like aren't that, but are instead just ...
