Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

unfortunately the mere question of an open honest discussion on renewables typically turns into a politicised slanging match. My original comment of an open an honest public discussion to dispel the myths of both sides would include. How much electricity will be required in the next 30 years given t...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

All cost and manufacturing aside, as at 5pm SA time.. 5:30 EST .. wind power generation for all states was less than 5%. At the time of day, with the greatest load.. 5% eith SA90% supplied by gas. Vic, NSW and Qld mainly coal. Building more wind turbines will not magically create more generation, re...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

Agree Patrick. Calling something national means nothing. Remember the National Wine Centre? .. no most people have probably never set foot in it. The gallery will live or die by its own reputation, such as the gallery in Tasmania. With the weight of the collection behind it, and provided petty state...

Re: News & Developments: Bowden TOD

It doesn't really say where these new town houses will be. If they are further away from the train station and more towards Chief Street, then I have no problem with that. If they are building town houses next to Bowden Station, that's another thing. The next release to developers, and the townhous...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

In principle, I would much rather see $10b spent on public transport, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. Imagine how much our city could be positively transformed with this. And then you will still need the motorway, because it has to be said yet again-this motorway is not being built for the b...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

What is it with Adelaide people and obsession with buses? A bus tunnel to Glen Osmond? Buses are still extremely limited in their capacity in comparison to trains, and still clog roads at their destination.. unless you were to also proposea bus tunnel in the CBD and longer buses. In the end it would...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

There was a part in SATAG's presentation citing past travel time for SteamRanger services from Adelaide Railway Station to Mount Barker in 47 minutes. It can be done. So a steam train could do it in 47 mins, but a modern diesel electric nearly 1.5? Those guys from 100 years ago would laugh their he...

Re: CBD Policing & Behaviour

It is interesting how many people find the symptoms of the problems faced by Australia's Aboriginal peoples more offensive than the problems themselves. Unfortunately the most visible interaction most people have with Aboriginals in the city, are the minority of hapless groups on the streets. We ar...

Re: CBD Policing & Behaviour

Can you just explain what exactly is the approach you suggest so then we can assess the merits of it? My statement was ‘time for a new approach’, because what is happening currently does not work, maybe political correctness needs to take a back seat to identify and address the core causes, after a...

Re: New City Arena

Apart from the nonsensical nature of this proposal because SMA/Tennis SA have been pitching a Memorial Drive upgrade for years and this ultimately won out. I don't think the numbers stack up in terms of return for investment, it reeks of under the table dealings between AVM and the state government...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

On a side note, looking carefully through the budget papers $10 million has been allocated in the next two financial years to “retrofit energy storage and recovery systems to diesel rail cars to reduce fuel consumption and improve performance” ( p58 of the Budget Measures Statement). That would mea...

[U/C] Re: 203 North Terrace | 119m | 35 levels | Student Accom

None of this is a problem anyway, Adelaide is a great city with so much potential to be even better. We don't need to compare ourselves to Perth. Very well put. As an expat Adelaidean living in Perth, I agree. Adelaide has a certain dignity, grace and elegance that Perth will never have. Tall build...
