Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Have all of the pumped hydro projects been canned? Two seem to still have web sites and future dates for construction starts. * Baroota Reservoir * Goat Hill The one at the quarries in Highbury was canned. I don't get why it's so expensive compared to batteries. Pumps, turbines and pipes are not th...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

There are some interesting questions in and from the posts above this one. One I have never seen mentioned is the total amount of energy consumed by transport. Refineries and importers would have a good idea of the volume and energy content of the liquid hydrocarbons they distribute. That would be a...

Re: After the North South Corridor..

I think the Truro Bypass has already been announced. That should be joined with the current end of the two-lane dual carriageway. I agree with Shuz it should eventually also be extended all the way to the state border in stages. It will need a new route from Waikerie to pass south of Loxton (roughly...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

In 2019 ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency) were due to fund a pumped hydro project in South Australia. There were 4 different applicants who applied for start up funding to get their project off their ground. ARENA never announced any funding, the cost of large scale batteries kept falling ...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

The signs are a real mess with no uniformity between stages. Would be good if a system of exit numbers was designated to each on and off ramp, would be a lot easier to remember than trying to roll off a list of roads at each exit. Naming exits by number means they need to be renumbered if new exist...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I suspect the ARTC line to Virginia and Two Wells is busy enough that a suburban service on the same single track would not work without duplicating it, so the question then is whether the operational efficiencies of having separate up and down tracks exceeds the separation benefits of laying a sep...

Re: PRO: Magill Road precinct

If you want to attract artists, you need trams. Extending the botanic gardens tram along Magill Road makes a lot of sense. Unlike the plans to extend it along the Parade, with Magill Road you don't have any corners, so the tram is faster and easier to construct. I agree in principle with massively ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Have they laid gauge convertible sleepers to Gawler? If so, then almost the whole network has gauge convertible sleepers. This should be the next project for Adelaide Metro trains. It gives no quick benefits, but will save us from problems in the future. What future problems are you envisioning? Wh...

The left turn lane from Torrens road onto Fitzroy terrace needs to be greatly extended
It looks as long as it can be. Do the lights at the end turn red while Park Terrace traffic has green, or only while pedestrians are crossing the slip lane?

Re: Adelaide Oval Expansion

I also heard (but haven't verified) that the AFL had a number of people from Sydney and Melbourne they wanted to attend the event in person, to which SA Health flat out said "no". Then why do they have no problem letting in AFL teams and umpires throughout the year, and now raising crowd ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn

Dog leg intersections are quite common to help drivers on the crossing road realise that there is an intersection rather than being dazzled by oncoming headlights and flying through a stop/give way sign without noticing. Perhaps the dog leg should have been removed when the traffic lights were added...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Thanks for the detailed update.

Is it possible that the electrification works will be mostly completed on the original timetable, and the recent delay is to 1) allow for train delivery and 2) avoid having to close the line again soon after to install the Torrens Road bridge?

I think the frustrating part about these lockdowns is mainly if we'd had the vaccines available they could have been avoided . Sent from my SM-A505YN using Tapatalk Maybe. I haven't heard how many (and which) of the infected carriers were vaccinated. I've had my vaccinations and tomorrow is the las...

[PRO] Re: New Womens and Childrens Hospital

I support the idea, but wonder if it has already been made too difficult by the western extension of the Convention Centre? The tracks under the Montefiore Road bridge are too close together to fit platforms between them. That means that the stairs and lifts from the western ends of each platform n...

[CAN] Re: Hove Level Crossing Removal | $171m

If there was no political motivation involved, the priority of order for crossing alterations/upgrades should be determined by analysing the combination of road traffic volumes and boom gate down time per location. If we were serious about having a bigger impact sooner. Crash history should also be...
