Re: Push For Public Transport To Be Free In Australia
While it's a pretty blunt stick to use, charging for PT use is one of the few levers available to balance supply and demand, especially during peak periods where there's a limit to the number of buses, trams and trains that can realistically get people to where they want to go. Outside of peak ther...

Re: News & Discussion: Other Transport Projects
It's good that Adelaide's CBD is not on the coast because it means people can live closer to the CBD. This is because people can live in all directions around the CBD, so it's like a circle. Coastal CBDs force the population to live in a semi-circle, which is a larger radius for the same population.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
if they persisted in using Citadis trams. They have a large turning radius, and don't turn and bend in the vertical direction well. Of course, afaik, there's no more ex Madrid trams to be had, so the State Government could simply buy trams that could do the turn without all the retaining walls Adel...

Talk about a staggering statistic. Rail commitments for the rest of the decade. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240515/65ccfeab674f6fda7b1c4f84bc607f32.jpg Now tell us the number of km of track to be laid in each city. $/km the Port Dock extension would be cheap compared to what's happening in t...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway
Before building tram depots, how about they decide where, if at all, any more tram lines will run? Keeping on the topic of the motorway, the best option for trams right now is to extend the existing stub routes. Extending the Entertainment Centre tram to Grange will involve crossing the motorway so...

Adelaide to Whyalla is about the range the first generation of electric airliners will have. There's potentially opportunity to ask for subsidies to trial electric airliners when they become available.

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy
Pedestrian crossings are dirt cheap to make grade separated. They could probably all be grade separated for the cost of one level crossing removal. The other advantage of building grade separated pedestrian crossings is it opens more entrances to some stations or makes connectivity with buses easier...

The result of a traditional inner city Liberal seat being lost to Labor, most on the back of a significant increase (9.5%) in the Greens vote all but guarantees that Labor will be in Government for, well, ever basically. One Party State. Also Labor has moved right to fill some of the gap left by th...

- Build a third track between Ovingham or Dudley Park and Grand Junction Road to allow express trains to pass. If the Adelaide Hills rail bypass is built, that will free up one track between Dry Creek and the city. There's actually enough space to have two extra tracks, so there could be express tr...

Is it just me or does that curved section look odd? I'm assuming they haven't finished perhaps? The track requires the use of a tamping machine to consolidate the ballast under the sleepers to establish the correct vertical and horizontal alignments of the track. It is only more recently that the t...

[U/C] Re: Port Adelaide Dock Spur Line
If the lines are to be connected, then it might be appropriate to connect the Port Dock line to the Outer Harbour line, and use the alignment via Wingfield as a T junction. The Rosewater loop corridor is surplus to requirements, and has no use nowadays. That would be ideal if the viaduct could be r...

[PRO] Re: New Police Barracks
Police horses are a waste of resources to being with. It would be better to do away with the mounted unit and buy more police cars. They serve very different purposes. How often does breaking up riots with horses take place in Adelaide? The cost of keeping horses for those few events is enormous an...
