Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

If the government isn’t prepared to commit to a proper extension to Roseworthy, even trialling a diesel service between Gawler and Roseworthy would be a great first step as more houses are completed. Do enough trackworks to get them running at a fair speed on single track, timetable them to sync wi...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Someday, a train trial to Two Wells with feeder buses linking Riverlea, a station at Virginia, and Angle Vale would be a nice wishlist as well, but a logistical nightmare due to track gauge and ownership. I’ve seen this mentioned before and I have to ask, how do you get rail into Angle Vale? You do...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I'm curious - what do people see as the purpose of bringing back rail services to Roseworthy and the Barossa Valley? Is it so that those areas can lose their "country charm" and become more sprawling suburbs full of detached housing for people who commute further to the Adelaide CBD? Is i...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I hope Gather Round in Lyndoch helps to make an issue of rail infrastructure in SA. This could form some important commentary if it's kept in the public conscience, and could time well for the next State Election if there is enough momentum. Agreed. Amidst all the tall promises of rail to Mount Bar...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I don't understand why there can't be an irregular service during peak tourism periods running to the Barossa? or why doesn't The Ghan or the Indian Pacific run through there? Different rail gauges, The Ghan and the Indian Pacific run on standard gauge. The only way to get to the Barossa is via the...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Isn't the rail lease holder supposed to maintain the line in working condition? If so, it shouldn't be an issue to run a special service. That was how the deal was presented at the time, to reduce backlash from giving up the line, but it's well known that there has been no enforcement of that condi...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

With the oval at Lyndoch Park being upgraded for Gather Round 2025 and future events, seems like the perfect time to reinstate the Barossa rail line that runs right alongside the grounds. https://www.indaily.com.au/sport/football/2024/04/08/barossa-sports-hub-gets-40-million-upgrade-for-gather-round...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway

Not a strong rumour, it’s actually happening. They need to widen the road corridor beneath the overpass to accomodate the massive corridor for the motorway ramps and tunnel portal. You can see the sheer scale on the interactive T2D map. The Marion/Cross Road overpass is going to be built at the same...

The 2015 ten-year-plan identified the middle bit as the highest priority, but we've got the other bits first as money became available.
I’d go a step further and add that the smaller bits of the NSM also functioned as proof of concept/commitment to the eventual full upgrade.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Cross Road/Marion Road followed by South Road followed by the Seaford/Flinders/Belair line. Three bunny hops in a row. I almost wonder if it would be better to just raise up the section of tramline between Cross Road and Goodwood station and enable even more roads to go underneath. The only level c...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The Seaford extension should’ve been Phase 1 of a two-phase extension all the way to Aldinga. As the Seaford phase wound down, shift the same crews straight over to the next section. Now 10 years and 1 week later we still don’t have rail to Aldinga and the Seaford extension was the last significant ...

drove past here today... absolutely zero activity on this site...nothing there at all other than a fence.

I don't think this is going to happen any time soon.
It’s been that way for months

Same mentality kept the level crossing in Croydon too.
IIRC one argument was that it would disrupt the quiet street atmosphere, but it was hard to hear it over the boom gate bells ringing every 5-10 minutes
