Re: [] News: Adelaide City Council

Welcome back Clr Yarwood :) I would be interested to hear what you learnt in Seattle. Seattle and Portland have some progressive ideas regarding community involvement in creating the "urban landscape". For example, Seattle has the Neighborhood Matching Fund and Portland has the City Repair Project ....

Re: Adelaide's worst suburb - Davoren Park

Simple; Bulldoze them. That wouldn't work - the bogans would just go somewhere else, and economic conditions mean that they'd still be clustered together. It's possible to talk about a place's issues without resorting to talk like "bogan" and "hole" and such - then the speaker could be part of the ...

Re: Adelaide's worst suburb - Davoren Park

What a load of crap, I am happy to walk back from the pub and walk home back from the train station in the dark. I've never had a problem. I'd like to see a list of incidents of what happens in the CBD to compare to. I haven't been there for years, but when I lived in Davoren Park I walked around f...

Re: #REJ - The Deq - 7 levels - Kent Town

I think Prince George summed it up well in the Conservatory on Hindmarsh thread: In the residential section, I dislike that, by starting so far above the street, it's been so separated from the city around it. It's almost like a gated community in the sky. What really appeals to me about urban sett...

Re: #REJ - The Deq - 7 levels - Kent Town

Cation: Past midnight, drunk ranting. I seriously hate the render we've been given of this building. I hate the shape, I hate the total lack of a lobby , I hate the way it refuses to interact with the street and I hate the balconies. I'm incredibly grateful it was rejected because frankly it looks ...

Re: #REJ - The Deq - 7 levels - Kent Town

It mystifies me that we put up so many bland developments in Adelaide that really do nothing for the city, and few people seem to care. Then something interesting gets proposed and people suddenly find a passion for architecture and urban design.. Who amongst those six residents complained about tho...

Re: Wayno on vacation: May 15 - July 18

Welcome back from George and I, Wayno :)

I think cruising (is that what you'd call it?) is my idea of a nightmare holiday. Sounds like you and your family had an amazing time overall though.

Glad you're back!

[COM] Re: #APP: 74-80 Light Square | 45m | 13lvls Office

OK, 'great design' can be subjective, but there are some things that are more or less quantifiable. Does the building improve street level interaction? Probably not. Is it generally designed to a prestige standard - fine materials, excellent detailing etc, or is it merely designed down to a budget....

[COM] Re: #PRO: 74-80 Light Square | 45m 13lvls Office (NOT REJECTED)

I feel that the development plan should be interpreted rather, that new buildings should have a 2-3 level masonry plinth to complement the streetscape, and for levels 4-12 the buidlign should be glass. Glass is a light element, and furthermroe if the glass were to be reflective it would blend in be...

[COM] Re: #PRO: 74-80 Light Square | 45m | 13lvls | Office

So the council is okay with knocking down number 76, which looks to be a lovely old building that is surely "in keeping" with the square, and then turns around and tells the developer that what they have done needs to be more like the rest of the square. Huh?!? Have I missed something? If we are goi...

Re: Mono's trip to LA - any requests?

Thanks Your Majesty. Perhaps I'll take a walk up there one day. How long do you think that would take? ;) Why, it's a mere 1536 kms - shouldn't take too long  George also found Disneyland to be more charming than he expected and I can see how, but - I don't know - Mainstreet USA just really bu...

Have a good time Mono.

LA is a long way from Seattle but if you decide to travel and somehow find yourself here, let us know :)

I don't like Disneyland - miserable old girl, I am.

Re: [] News: Adelaide City Council

I must admit that I had scant knowledge of the good work that PPS do. I an sure that had we known they were in Australia we would have tried to get them across to Adelaide. I'm sorry about that. ACC staff have been talking to David Sim of Jan Gehl's office and I am hoping that I might be able to pe...
