Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Adelaide to Port Dock should be all grade separated. When Port Dock station opens, there will be even more trains going through there, the crossings will barely be open.
Looking ahead, making it grade separated makes automation easier.

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
Yes 3 lanes can be done with one boring machine but my point is 6 lanes can’t. Therefore they will need to use 2 boring machines to do 6 lanes (ie. 3 lanes in each direction). So obviously using 2 TBMs will be a lot more expensive than using 1 TBM for 2 x 2 lanes. Further they could potentially com...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
I think even if a second Adelaide airport ever took off (pun intended), ADL would likely remain in use for some domestic flights where business travellers prefer the proximity to the CBD, similar to how London City Airport operates very close to Docklands and central London. Adelaide Airport is in ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
are people here aware that there is a full strength infantry battalion (7RAR) as well as supporting units based at Edinburgh with infrastructure that is only about 10 years old. they're not leaving anytime soon. They don't have to. There's plenty of room on the site for both military and civil avia...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Build the Northern Connector rail line and change the gauge of the ARTC line so Gawler trains can use it as a passing loop Here is an out there idea: Suppose the Adelaide Hills bypass is built and also the North Adelaide tram extension is built. These are two projects that the government is somewha...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
I feel that every station between Salisbury and Adelaide would definitely benefit from relocation of the ARTC line. It forms a massive barrier to access and movement, and limits the scope for other improvements; for example, potential passing loops at major stations or platform widening. Build the ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
There will never be regular commercial passenger flights in and out of a military base. Especially not in this day and age with terrorism as a major security concern. Actually there are regular commercial flights out of at least three RAAF bases: RAAF Base Townsville is shared with Townsville Inter...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
If a Monarto Airport ever, ahem, "took off", and assuming the proposals of an intercity fast train project went ahead (corridor would also replace the current freight line) aligned to SEF with trains to Murray Bridge in an estimated 30-45min, could a Monarto Airport for freight AND passen...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
All of the privatised airports are obliged to make "ex gratia" payments in lieu of rates and land tax. This isn't usually problematic, but occasionally has been the subject of dispute - most notably at Launceston Airport . In that case, an independent valuer was brought in to determine a ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Is the airport paying the council rates now? Years ago, there was a stoush because the airport wasn't paying any rates. The airport is on Commonwealth land, and Commonwealth land typically doesn't pay rates to the local council. However, as part of the lease agreement between the federal government ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Never noticed this before because I’m rarely on North Terrace at night, but last week Monday night I noticed the 174 bus to Paradise do a hook turn at the KWS/North Tce intersection turning right onto North Tce. It makes sense with the tram tracks there, but it’s an odd thing for Adelaide. Are ther...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Just for this week, I've been counting passenger numbers on select services along the Gawler line during morning and evening peak periods. Here are some key thoughts: - Electrification will make a massive difference by speeding up the service. - Some stations definitely need to be culled. Kudla is ...

[PRO] Re: Aldinga Rail Extension | $800m
The point was that it would be cheap to construct since the path is already there. It only needs to be single track because it will be low frequency. It could replace the bus service to those towns.
