Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy
What background or knowledge does Corey have in transport systems and planning? Absolutely zero. A minister shouldn't need to, instead relying on the expertise and advice of senior apolitical public servants within their portfolio to inform their decision making. Out here in the real world though :...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Moderators can we please move the bus discussion in this thread to the buses thread ?.....save another thread going totally off topic. They are trackless trams. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackless_tram Not trying to troll you here. But they really aren't buses either. So, shouldn't really go ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Speaking of improvements. How about some new park n rides? Possible sites Park and rides should only be built on the edges of the network. For Adelaide, the two best locations are near the ends of the Seaford and Gawler lines. There's already a big park and ride at Seaford Meadows, does it regularl...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Agreed. Now instead of one big package, there are likely to be minor changes and tweaks all over the place, and every change that results in a bus stop moving or a road not serviced will have Koutsantonis crowing about how Libs are trying to bring in their changes by stealth. Even adding new routes...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
The bus reforms aren't even popular among the Liberal Party https://indaily.com.au/news/2020/06/17/duluk-speaks-out-as-libs-revolt-on-bus-cuts/ No matter what the issue is, if a government makes changes, there will always be some who will complain. Carbon tax? Renewable energy? Tax reforms? It does...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
In terms of night buses, only the N40 (City to Elizabeth), N1 (City to Tea Tree Plaza via O-Bahn), N72 (City to Noarlunga/Seaford) and N82 (City to Mount Barker) remain. In terms of areas losing Public Transport, it's being lost in Oakden, St Marys, Warradale, Wattle Park and Auldana, and West Beac...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy
It does make sense to use those apps, rather than the state government to build, fund and maintain their own. An equivalent would be like SA creating their own version of the google maps app - why do it when others have already done it and are better at it. Well, yes. But often those apps start ove...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
$175M is buying 15 x 3 carriage trains - seating capacity of 240 each and $120M buys you 20 x trams at a seating capacity of 64 each. You want to run an Outer Harbor tram line and add spurs to West Lakes and Semaphore and only buy 20 trams. Grange and Outer Harbor run a combined 8 trains an hour in...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
The whole heavy v light rail is now kind of irrelevant in regard to the Northwest corridor anyway. It's dead. We MIGHT see the main line electrified in the next decade, but that's about it. I would expect at that time Grange will be closed as there is no way it could be cost effective for 4 barely ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
So, for example, a tram and a train going between stops one km apart might each get up to 70kph before they have to brake for the stop. So, each can do the job equally, but the train costs more to build...for doing the same job. The train also sonsumes more energy because it has to accelerate a gre...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Pedestrian access is still a problem for many stations in Adelaide. This discussion about North Adelaide is one example. The thing is, it's very inexpensive to solve compared to other infrastructure projects. There are plans to remove level crossings from Adelaide, but few talk about grade separati...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Whats the point of getting rid of stations anyway? The train is there to service the community, why does someone in a low density outer suburb deserve a train station but someone in a medium density middle suburb doesn't. Yes some stations can be amalgamated. We should be building higher density ho...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
This all gets back to the point that if we want lots of stops for small numbers of people each stop, then trams are the best type of vehicle. If, on the other hand, we want a fast service to the city, it's got to be heavy rail, preferably electrified with very few stops and large stations with lots ...
