Re: #COM: Harbourtown | Stage 3 Expansion

Let us welcome our new big-box overlords! Lol, not me! Living in America has had a life changing impact on me - it truly hurts my soul to see whole landscapes here devoted to these chains. So, I am never entering a big box store again, as long as I live. If I die for want of a cheap outdoor setting...

[COM] Re: #PRO - 102 Waymouth Street - Low-Income Housing - 15 levels

Because what we need in the city is 15 storeys of public housing tenants... If I read the article right, the plan is to split the apartments between public housing tenants, low income earners, and sales on the open market (plus the 30 apartments for homeless youth). It sounds a creative approach to...

Re: Portland, home of the TOD

One thing that struck me about South Waterfront was the advertising I saw on the ground floor windows of one of the buildings, the John Ross condominium. It was a large sign that said something like, "Have coffee with friends, write a novel, dream, run a marathon, live in the John Ross". H...

Re: #U/C: | Bay Junction | $60m | 3lvls | Retail | Glenelg

The trees are not actually that funny if you think about it. The reason why they like are that is becuase the Council has deemed these trees significant and refused the developers permission to cut them down. So instead of kicking up a big legal fight with the council, the builders simply built aro...

that reminds me, about this time last year, there was a S-A drinks meet up at the Griffins Head. Is there one planned for this year, Howie?
Thanks jk :) I'm so excited to get back home!

Have fun at the Chrissy drinks everyone.

Thanks Will.

Personally, I am watching this development with a sense of trepidation. I worry we are losing more than we are gaining here. I hope I'm wrong.

Good news on three fronts. Looks like an extra 2 levels meaning this will now be 21 levels and approx 101m and I can only assume this is because they have a tenant lined up who requires more space. Would be fantastic to have another over 100m. DA/562/2008/B 26/11/2009 Development Application Receiv...

Aww c'mon peeps, let's not be mean to each other.

Breaker Morant was a South Australian Film Corproation production, wasn't it? That is something to be proud of, it's such a wonderful movie.

I looked onto this when we did the submission on the ACC's Creating our future document. Park Lands was the winner. I can't remember why, though.

Re: #PRO: | The Wayville | $300m | 6lvls | Mixed-Use | Wayville

I'd prefer boring-ish carbon copy buildings like this in Goodwood and something more interesting in North Adelaide. Why is that, cw? I guess I was thinking along the lines of Goodwood being less important than North Adelaide and a development that isn't world class not being as out of place in a su...

Re: Is it too late to save the Port?

I think it would be fair to say that SA doesn't have a monopoly on poor decision making by government and developers. Since I've been in the US I've become interested in the efforts of local communities to improve their areas. There is plenty of bad planning in the US, just like anywhere else - but ...

Re: #PRO: Concordia Town Expansion

It seems that once again, the driver for the choice of Concordia is not rational urban planning, but the good old property development industry. It's a lot easier to make money out of developing a broadacre site than mucking around with infill. Yep, I agree too. After living here in the US (where t...

Re: State Election 2010

Thinkers in Residences is a waste of time and taxpayers resources, business leaders have been saying that for ages now. How about a Do'ers in Residence program, starting with appointing a chief architect for our city. I disagree there Howie. I'm proud that SA is willing to invest in "ideas&quo...
