Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
Are these freeway to freeway interchanges (South road/PR Expressway is effectively a trumpet interchange), or do they include some form of access control for any movements (either in the form of give way/roundabout/traffic signal) like the above ? Both - most signalised ramps have free-flow aspects...

Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
If it's "not a bike lane", why is there a bike painted in the lane, with turn markings and crossings? A "road shoulder which cyclists are permitted to ride on" wouldn't have any markings at all. Because that is the Australian Standard design. The markings show the cyclist where ...

Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
Cyclists aren't allowed on the freeways or most parts of Tonkin, Roe etc in Perth so of course there's no provision for them crossing off-ramps.
Look at Sydney's M4, M5, F3, F6 etc and every single off/on ramp where cyclists are allowed on the freeway has this treatment.

Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
You say yourself, the curve of the on ramp is significantly tighter than normal. Tighter than normal, yes. I can't comment on the sight distance as I haven't driven or ridden through there since the PRE was opened. The design of the bike lane, with crossings across off and on ramps, is ridiculously...

Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
There's nothing in the story to suggest the truck had right of way either - but go ahead, blame the guy who lost his life. The man, 24, of New Port, died at the roadside after being hit by a truck. He was attempting to cross lanes to get to the left side of the highway while riding east towards Sal...

[COM] Re: South Road Upgrades | SWP: South Road Superway
I cant say I've researched it that well, but it seems to be that alot of Toll roads recently have failed. People simply don't want to pay to drive on a road. So this conclusion supports the notion that many trips are discretionary and placing a more visible direct cost on them discourages people fr...

Re: Cyclist killed on the Port River Expressway
How did this idiot get himself hit by a truck? I can't see anything in the story that would suggest the cyclist had right of way. Ignoring the stupid bickering in this thread, I will say one thing - cyclists tend to want to take advantage of the road rules when it suits them and then flaunt them whe...

Re: #PRO: City Busway - O-Bahn to West Tce
agree with the comment about dedicated bus lanes when there are no buses ie late at night There's no need for the extra capacity for cars late at night  Basically, if a bus lane goes in during peak periods it should probably apply for 24hrs seeing as the extra capacity is not required outside...

They will show alternate messages if the expressway is closed. See muzzamo's post hereThe Scooter Guy wrote:Why do some of the overhead signs have rotating blinds like those for the Southern Expressway?
Any clues?

One can only assume it is a typo and it is meant to say "To M20"

What the f*ck?
I'm also suprised that the National Highway shield is still being used, despite the National Highway system becoming defunct in 2004.

Re: #U/C: Northern Expressway | 22km
Went for a trip up there last night just to see it with my own eyes... apparently Heaslip road leads "to M31". Surely it's gotta be a mistake. I can understand M20 leading to M31 (albeit 950kms and two states later on), but Heaslip Rd? Epic fail. Must head out there again soon with a came...

Re: #U/C: Northern Expressway | 22km
Melbourne's A8 keeps its number despite being bypassed by the M8. No it doesn't. The former route of A8 through Deer Park is now 'Metropolitan Route 8' - completely different to A8. But illogical in itself because Victoria has this hybrid of alpha-numerics and the old shielded routes. A better exam...
