Battleship Island

#1 Post by AtD » Sun Aug 24, 2008 8:58 pm

Now this is funky! Hashima Island aka Battleship Island, about 15km off the coast from Nagasaki, Japan. The tiny island was once a coal mining facility owned by the Mistubishi Company. At its peak, the population was 5200, which equates to a population density of 83000 per sqkm, about 70 times that of Adelaide. The island boasted all the conveniences of home, such as schools and cinemas. The coal mine closed in 1974, the population left within the year and the island city has been abandoned ever since.
