While Adelaide seems to have an identity crisis with things like Victoria Square, Rundle Mall, AAMI Stadium, RAH etc, & might
like an iconic building or symbol, London with no such problem is planning a "Piffle Tower" to rival the Eiffel Tower ...

He vowed in his mayoral manifesto to crack down on tall buildings and protect London's 'precious' skyline.

But it seems Boris Johnson is prepared to make an exception to the rule when it comes to sealing his legacy.

The London Mayor is planning a £15million monument intended to rival the Eiffel Tower.

To be built in the Olympic Park in time for the 2012 Games, it has already been nicknamed the 'Piffle Tower' after Mr Johnson's
'inverted pyramid of piffle' comments made when he denied an extra-marital affair in 2004.

lol - looks like an american indian totem pole...

Haven't they already allowed that interesting/strange gherkin curved top building to be built? That's enough of a landmark

No it doesn't - it looks like an oversized electricity pylon in red gladwrap.

'Tis a landmark at the moment, but sooner or later people are going to start referring to it as The First Gherkin as gherkin shaped buildings start cropping up everywhere. Indeed if they had more sense they'd scrap the Pylon design for this and replace it with a bigger Gherkin. Or as it will have direct train services to the European mainland, it could become the Continental Cucumber!
