(Not) only in Adelaide

#1 Post by Burger » Tue Apr 10, 2012 3:21 pm

As I think many on this forum have said before, Adelaide isn't the only place in the world to suffer NIMBYs or 'impediments to progress'.

Have a look at this article referring to, what I think is, a relatively attractive building and solution to the inherent problems of the site. Then read the comments and bask in the warm feeling of knowing that it happens everywhere...

I'd also be interested to know contributors' thoughts on the design itself (I am in no way associated with it, just interested in people's opinion of the architecture).

I find it to be clumsy architecture - difference for the sake of difference, not because it's demonstrably better. The greatest architect can make a square building on a square site look beautifully elegant and timeless without having to resort to obvious frippery and fad.

With that said, this building is far less of an offender than some I've seen that are just blatantly stupid for no other reason than being needlessly different.
