The Art Gallery have managed something of a coup - from July to October, they will be exhibiting a collection of contemporary British art from London's Saatchi Gallery. Most (all?) of this collection has not come to Australia before; in fact, if I read things right, the exhibition only ended at Saatchi in April. Last year, when it was first at Saatchi, more than 500,000 people came to see it - averaging a little over 4,000 per day.

excellent! i'll be there for sure.

Will be interesting to see how well the SA Art Gallery promotes this across Australia.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Wow! That's fantastic news. Well done to AGSA in scoring the exhibition. According to the AdelaideNow article, it will be the largest exhibition ever at the gallery, taking up 70% off the total exhibition space.

This exhibition follows on the SA gallery's current exhibition by contemporary Australian artist Patricia Picinini - Once upon a time ....
Image
Patricia Piccinini: Once upon a time… promises to be a spectacular exhibition that will transport you to a land not so far far away. Drawn primarily from private collections, and including an exciting new work seen here for the first time, the exhibition will provide a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a group of cautionary tales that span the artist’s fifteen-year oeuvre to date. Through the realism of photography, moving image, sculpture, drawing and installation, Piccinini will transport you to strange locations that are eerily familiar. Confronted by her seemingly grotesque hybrid beings and anthropomorphic machines, she will challenge you to find beauty in a world that can never be perfect.
The curator has been quite ambitious with this program - apart from the (confronting!) works, there is a program of speakers, workshops, and lab sessions to accompany it. There's also a program of films, which included family friendly movies like Monsters, Inc and Cars, but might I suggest that people on these forums would be more interested in the 1930 oddity Freaks showing later in June.
