Events Post-Covid

#1 Post by rev » Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:20 pm

Looks like the restrictions are going to last a few more months at least at this stage, social distancing and all that.

What events do people foresee coming out the other end of this crisis as making it?
Come the summer time, if restrictions are still in place I don't think we are going to see a Mad March.

I think they've rescheduled Tasting Australia for the Spring time. I doubt it's going to go ahead this year.
Test Cricket in the summer, I can see it going ahead but without a crowd perhaps.

The Fringe and Adelaide Festival are still happening at this stage. The Fringe has a variety of changes to comply with restrictions, and the venues will be laid out differently.

Due to the virus, Tennis Australia will move all tournaments to be played in Melbourne for this summer.

Therefore Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Sydney, and Perth will not host their respective events this summer.

Melbourne comes out as the big winner, who would have thought considering the mess that place was in a short while ago - at one stage it looked like not hosting the Australian Open at all, now they will get all!

They're going to play all the summer tournaments there because of the logistical nightmare involved in bringing in players from around the world and having to quarantine them. Who knows what the situation will be in across the country in January?
48 hours ago nobody thought we would be in the midst of an outbreak in Adelaide with other states closing their borders to us, but here we are.

The important thing to remember is that this is all temporary.

The Feast Festival is currently happening in Adelaide, which was already a bit of a test of how events might happen in this modern world. With the new restrictions in place it will be interesting to see how the events can adapt, which ones can go ahead with increased restrictions and which ones have to be cancelled.

The First Test cricket match versus India that is scheduled for next month at AO is hanging in the balance depending on how well SA can contain this current virus outbreak - the Melbourne Cricket Club has been given a heads up it may have to host the day/night first test as well as the boxing day second test - but only if the situation is not deemed safe in SA. Not sure what the drop dead decision date is for stay or go.
