Right this moment the items won't be able to do anything... but hopefully *fingers crossed* the next eshop will give you forum abilities.

The Candy Shop has now opened

The only ability available at the moment is being able to change your username colour. E.g. I bought my pink title for 50 scraper dollars.

Note that more abilities are coming shortly.

How does the equation for how many dollars/post work? I've posted one line and got ~$35, and four paragraphs, with images, and got ~$25.

You get more points if you start a topic than you do if you reply to a topic. I've recently made some adjustments for the points you get... still in the tweaking stage at the moment.
