Do you honestly expect Street View to be updated so often? And is it such a problem that the satellite images are from summer? I don't think any investors would be so stupid as to solely rely on Google to check upon their purchases. There's a real world too!

Maybe they should invest in Google, because they obviously need more drivers.

I would imagine that for Google Adelaide would be low down on their list when it comes to frequently updating street view.

That said, does anyone have any solid information regarding Google's policies re:updating street view? Is it different depending on country/city/area, or is it just a blanket 'once the images are X old then cars will be sent there'?

Google to give Street View a refresh

http://www.itnews.com.au/News/159513,go ... fresh.aspx
Bring in your wheelie bins!

Google’s Street View is set to get a refresh in Australia that will see higher-quality images incorporated into Google Maps. The update, starting this month, will see Google's fleet of Street View cars drive around Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and parts of Tasmania.

In a blog posting, Google product manager Andrew Foster said Street View was “most useful” when imagery was kept up-to-date. He said this was why Google was sending the Street View fleet of cars back out on the road.

“The images we're collecting this time will be crisper than before,” Foster said.

“It will also make our face-blurring technology even more accurate, because faces and license plates will be easier for our blurring technology to recognise”.

Foster said the new imagery would be available “sometime within the next year” and reminded users that they could report any imagery they were “uncomfortable with".

“If you're ever uncomfortable with an image that appears in Street View ... it's a simple matter to have it blurred or removed,” Foster said.

Privacy update

Foster said that Google’s internal copy of imagery would be blurred within one year of publication.

“We retain Street View images on our databases so we can do things like improve our blurring technology and check our maps against the images so that we don't give you bad driving directions," Foster said.

“We will permanently blur images that we retain for internal use within one year of their publication on Street View,” he said. “This means that ... the only copy we keep will be the one in which faces and license plates are blurred”.

Foster said that Google believed blurring internal images after one year would strike a “good balance between protecting people's privacy and our ability to reduce mistakes in blurring”.

The google earth car was driving in front of me down Rundle St earlier today. It turned left onto Frome St.

I hope the new imagery will come out better...
Since I go out on my push scooter a lot, I may even get captured... :o
If possible, you could try finding your car!
I wish there was bird's eye imagery taken with a helicopter or plane...
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Google Maps is taken from a plane. Over Adelaide it goes down to 10m to a couple of centimetres at 72dpi. And it is taken at a slight angle, the only feature missing is the ability to change the compass point of that angle as you can in BingMaps. But Bing's interface is so horrible that I tend to eschew the extra feature and go back to Google.

Somone on SSC just posted this:
http://www.nearmap.com/

It's basically a Google Maps clone, but very up to date. the Adelaide image is from Oct 29th, so it has the South Road Tram overpass and everything. And everything's green!
