Airport Security

You must go through security gates when getting onto a flight so why do we not have security gates when you exit, that in my opinion is putting safety at risk because whats stopping a person getting a knife from the plane, or kitchens in Hungry Jacks etc.
Should we have security gates at the exits too?

I've never understood why you show your ID when you check in your bags then potentially hand over your ticket to someone dangerous once inside the gate and off they go. Whats the point in asking for ID prior to actually boarding?
