P.S. Unfortunately Shuz Observatory House is Heritage Listed (and deserves so).
If thats the red-brick building that you're talking about, then yes that should stay. But, why propose a 16-storey monolith next to it? It wonuldnt be a good invigoration with the streetscape. I think a very cool idea would be to replicate that facade around corner (with the red bricks and authentic roof tiling) and convert it into or or two luxury upscale restaurants.
One idea is to acquire the properties surrounding Observatory House and building over it. Another is to move the building (brick by brick...
) and put it elsewhere. Would those ideas be acceptable? I'm not so sure.
Somewhere else on this forum I said that they should lift height restrictions in this area of the CBD up to Pulteney Street, unfortunately there are too many small allotments which have to be acquired to make something substantial. It's really annoying.
Cheers

So many shitty buildings and empty sites around the city but the developer picks the historic building which with a little bit of work would look fantastic. A 16 storey building next to Observatory House would diminish it's presence and the streetscape of Flinders St. Demolishing and developing the buildings on the other side of the Flinders Link development (towards Gawler Place) would improve Flinders St but redeveloping this site is a backward step.

One nice allotment is the Savings & Loans on the corner of Gawler Place and Flinders Street. Add their newer building adjacent to SANTOS and you have a superb spot for a nice tall tower of 20 plus storeys (if the ACC will let one be built on the northern side of Flinders Street)!! We can only dream.
Cheers

This has been referred to the state heritage branch so this building must be heritage listed and therefore I assume the facade will be retianed.

82 Flinders St is not State Heritage listed but Observatory House at 84 Flinders St is. The development at 82 affects 84 which is why it has been referred to State Heritage Branch.

The guys designing this did the Horizon and Embassy apartment towers on North Terrace. They havent done any significant commercial projects before, so it will be a test to see what comes of it.

I like Shuz's render the best, pehaps with a bronze glass or rose glass tower 10 metres or so back from the facade. Hey Shuz, can you do that?
cheers,
Rhino
