Freedom Apartments = Ipad x 3.
I like Ipad - it looks good having buildings on the edge of the CBD.

I'd really be down with this project if the western facades were up to par. They are just too plain.

I know design's a subjective thing, but, really?skyliner wrote:Really like the design of this set.

"Design" is too great a word. This is merely a commercial venture "designed" to make a return for owners/investors, it exhibits no merit other than increased density for the city. So in that sense it is probably a good thing for the CBD. In the ideal world, a building should enrich both investors and the people that have to interact with the building - but that only happens in more ambitious places it seems. At the end of the day, we all have to remind ourselves that we live in Adelaide.skyliner wrote:Really like the design of this set.

Reading such comments well and trully remind me that I am in Adelaide, because only in Adelaide can people have such a negatively toxic mentallity so as to blame Adelaide for things it has no control over. How is it Adelaide's fault that the develoeprs behind this have no civic spirit, but rather are only driven by profit?omada wrote:"Design" is too great a word. Furthermore, reading your comment, one would assume that only in Adelaide are cheap, investment developments erected.

I think you'll find any list of "ambitious places" would include cities full of developments like these.
[CAN] Re: APP: Freedom Apartments (Grote) | 30m | 3 x 8 Lvl
Well the decision lies with the council, they approved this eyesore.. they should set the bar higher. If developers know that they have to place more emphasis on quality developments, then surely we will see less of buildings like these, FFS they would barely get approved in Port Lincoln.
[CAN] Re: APP: Freedom Apartments (Grote) | 30m | 3 x 8 Lvl
The state government approved this, not the ACC.
Besides, it's not that bad of a design.

The design reminds me of a modern day interpretation of the cream brick apartment blocks of the 60's & 70's that are sprinkled around Adelaide..... therefore the 'design' (and i use the term loosley) is complete garbage.

Well you get what you pay for.
These apartments are aimed at the lowest rung on the market. What do people expect? For the developer to lose money....
This is the same scenario worldwide. Save for a few government built projects, projects aimed at the lowest end of the market are cheap and plain.

I would say there are cheaper and plainer ones on the NW corner of Angas and Frome streets. Also the "Box Factory" units/apartments are cheaper and plainer. Not sure if any of these are privately owned though.
cheers,

I dont think that the planners can reject a development simply due to architecture, only if it is out of keeeping with surrounding heritage buildings which does not affect this site. If it ticks all the planning policy boxes it goes through.
