How is it that other cities are able to have and other developers & architects are able to create tall buildings clad entirely in glass, but we can't do that here?

Isn't the Adelaide City Council notorious for keeping Adelaide in the 70's?
Here in Melbourne we have the opposite problem, we are getting shocking things erected that don't even
resemble buildings.

Yes, I don't like what is happening to Melbourne's skyline. Lots of buildings 'weird for the sake of being weird' going up. Ugly!

As has been covered earlier in the thread, council was the only body trying to protect the former state bank building, both by giving it local heritage status and opposing its demolition in its representation to SCAP. The decision was outside its control (although council did allow the building's bastardisation in the 80s (when it had authority) which contributed to the justification for demolition now). The criticism should be directed to the planning commission, the development plan and insufficient heritage protections.

Who is they? Developers change buildings based on the economic environment at the time. Some increase, some decrease...
