When I read the article on Adelaide Now I thought maybe it was an error. Then I come to this site and saw Howie's comment about him being a Gouger Street regular. I have to say I am surprised to hear of a Chinese Billionaire living in Adelaide. How could I have never heard of this before? It's not like there are any other billionaires in our state. Even a Google search brings up nothing more than the that one line seen in the above article.

It's an interesting revelation.

Not quite billionaire's, but there are heaps of multi-mega-millionaires living in SA. That is, people with substantial wealth beyond their family home and superannuation. But then again a million bucks sure ain't what it used to be. Being a 'bilionaire' sure is a lofty achievement.

Interestingly, Port Lincoln has the most millionaire's per capita of any Australian city/town. Something fishy (pun) going on there.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I can remember hearing my chinese tutor from uni saying that she chose Adelaide to live in when she came to Australia because it wasn't cold (unlike big chunks of northern china) and it had the lowest population density of pretty much all the mainland capital cities, and by Chinese standards, it's one of the tiniest cities they can imagine.

I think for a lot of Chinese, they get the shits with living in someone elses back pocket all their lives, and Adelaide makes a welcome change. Even if that means living in a tiny student apartment, it means they can still walk down the street without continuously bumping into people.

Of course, I have absolutely no idea whether that is what has driven this guy to live in Adelaide though.

Looks very impressive - big impact on the southern skyline - tram effect here too in attracting such a bldg (i min from Uni SA). Just down the road from 379KWS peroposal - have'nt heard anything about this though for months. :D :D Hope it is not dumbed down.

Looks nice and sparkly in the render albeit a little lacking in orginality and detail. Not convinced on the big precast panels fronting Gilbert Street though - I would have thought they might have been able to come up with a design that engages with Gilbert Street a little better and makes more use of views towards the parklands and hills which although they may eventually be built out, may well not be for a good while. Also hoping the quality of the finishes is decent.

If that is the Brecknock Hotel at the left side of that render, then this building is on the northern corner of KWS and Gilbert St, so we cannot see the Gilbert St facade. Is there another render from the other angle that you have seen, or is that not the Brecknock that I can see?
cheers,

Rhino, the render is looking North West. The long facade is Gilbert St, the short facade is KWS.

Actually rhino I'm pretty sure that is the Gilbert Street facade, with the Brecknock Hotel directly opposite on the other side of Gilbert street...unless I'm missing something :D

Yeah, I reckon you are right, it's looking NW, not SW, so that is the Gilbert St facade.
cheers,
Rhino

Hopefully it would give Adelaide Metro a kick up the arse to actually upgrade the "forgotten" City South stop...

That's pretty outrageous if they're actually proposing an essentially prefab wall to Gilbert Street. As someone else said, there are views to be had... not least of which is ours from the street.
