Adelaide Oval would be a much bigger drawcard than games at AAMI as for reasons given above.Commercial managers from each of the 18 AFL clubs visited Adelaide to get a first hand look at the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval. The two day meeting at the Adelaide Convention Centre is the first time this group has gathered outside of Melbourne, and includes a tour of the Adelaide Oval and a visit to McLaren Vale.
The meeting will give AFL club managers an insight into what will be on offer in Adelaide in 2014. AFL Commercial Operations Manager, Darren Birch, says interstate clubs are keen to explore new tourism opportunities at the Oval.
“Adelaide Oval’s re-birth will add new life to AFL matches in South Australia’s capital and will kick off a host of event options for commercial partners of the AFL and individual clubs.”
I somewhat loathe the AFL and how much they're cashing in on this development whilst contributing so little to it's birth. Keep in mind without the AFL this would not be happening. While the money they are providing for construction is relatively small ($5mil by memory?), the amount of time they have put into getting this up and running should not be underestimated. Southern plaza coming along very quickly. Almost flat ground now, roads etc. Roof cover around 60% done. The big screen in between the western and southern stand looked almost complete too when I drove past today.
