City Messenger is reporting that the "TV box" idea, and covering the HJ's carpark with video screens are the two final options.

When I was looking at the ideas in the Council foyer, I was under the impression that the render with the orange background and the birds flying across was just applying artwork to the exterior of the carpark, rather than hanging huge digital screens?

Eithier of those options are great and will make a huge difference to the atmosphere there.

The decision was meant to of been made Monday night so it should be available from somewhere.

I hope they go for the superscreens myself. In their original form, not a watered down version.

I'd like to see something that is going to make a massive statement and an impact in the CBD.

I don't think the box idea would do that as much.

Decision has been delayed because the Vic Park debate took forever, apparently, so will be discussed at the next meeting.

Screens are common in other cities. There's nothing memorable about it. But the box is something quite unique. And being suspended over an intersection, I think it's a great idea.

the box would be an interesing element in a longer view down pulteney street, although arguably it could also have a detrimental effect on the view of Bonython Hall as a terminus to this street - which is more important? i think it could work

The idea is alright, but I can't help thinking it would look tacky "suspended" over the intersection.

They were talking about hanging it from surrounding buildings on cables - I think this would look trashy.

I want the superscreens on the Hungry Jacks carpark with a view to doing something similar over the Target carpark.

I doubt it will even actually happen, really. Someone will whinge, and the entire project will be scrapped, like just about every other decent idea that's ever mentioned in Adelaide.

1. Why does Adelaide have to answer to Times Square?
2. The corner is ugly and dirty - it needs a good pressure cleaning and lick of paint.
3. The city is dead on weeknights and everything shuts up too early on weekends - what do these people do once "attracted"?

Longer opening hours for shops and venues, all-night public transport and telling new apartment occupiers to shove it when they complain about the noise from venues rather than making venues tone it down or shut earlier would do a lot more to bring people into the city and liven the place up.

That being said, they should plaster the intersection with giant screens for commercials. It would also be good if they'd set aside some time for the public to run interesting animations or visual effects on them. The Hungry Jacks car park is also perfectly shaped for a news ticker - they could even make it so you can submit a message to be displayed on it via the web or SMS!

Using some colourled lighting on the facades of the buildings would also be a killer effect (check out the casino in Brisbane at night) - especially if they cycled through hues like those 3 Mobile phone shops do to add some life to the display!

Probably a bit late tyo suggest this now but adelaide's answer to times square i think would probably be better at the other end of the mall where hindley st meets king william street. king william st could be similar to swanston st in melbourne which is blocked off to all traffic except local traffic between north tce and grenfell/currie st. having a large screen here would have been great for the soccer world cup and other events like the olympics etc. i dont think the location they are proposing is going to do anything but camoflage those ugly car parks...well make them look less obvious.

Closing King William Street to traffic would start WW3 lol. Plus it would make the city look dead, different if KWS wasn't so wide.

I agree the Rundle & Hindley St intersection needs something modern and exciting but closing KWS to traffic is not the answer.

This is being discussed at Monday night's ACC meeting apparently, so hopefully we'll have a definitive answer on what's happening early next week.
