I’ve been saying this for years too. The least the council should do is stage 2 of the southern end.

The state government have the ACC right where they want them with this... Because the council will need government funding to realign the road/tramline, which should really be the next stage of the masterplan to go ahead and until that happens, the council can't really commit to anything with the remainder of the square because it still remains disjoined into little pockets of open space. IMO, there's not much use in trying to incorporate the Victoria Square entrance of the Market Arcade in that redevelopment if there isn't a suitable civic space to walk out into...

Signage.

The glazing is very good, which has saved this building from being a bland shocker.

But I’m still of the opinion that the square window proportions are wrong. Either horizontally or vertically proportioned windows would have been far more preferable.

By the way, I feel sorry for the office workers on the top floor corner having their window view covered up by the “BHP” signage.

This, and the SA Water building on the opposite side of the square are two of the greatest waste of prime CBD real estate in the last decade. Unlike Melbourne where the prime sites were quarantined from developement until a proposal of adequate landmark design and proportion were proposed.

Na, there’s that much undeveloped land in prime areas plus this is better than at least 80% of everything else. I actually agree having an understated building here is important as it shows off the GPO more

So does that mean the GPO will be closed by end of October?

I would think so or very soon. Which will allow for works to start on the hotel.

I don't know what this pattern is meant to be, but I hope it's illuminated at night to bring some brightness to this street.
