It’s not bad and looks pretty decent in person but again, I lament the missed opportunity of what could have been.
I don't see how this is a missed opportunity when it has turned out better than half of the buildings that are going up in Adelaide at the moment.
Should it have been taller? Now we await the second stage, the hotel component. Now wouldn't that be interesting if they decided on adding another ten levels or so?

Cheers

It's an adequate and inoffensive design that would have been more than fine if it wasn't situated amongst the similarly sized rectangular boxes of City Central. In aggregate, the view from Victoria Square is pretty lacklustre.

That means very little when so many have turned out quite poorly. We shouldn’t be happy that it managed to surpass very low expectations but rather hold our expectations for the quality of development we have in the city, to a higher standard. Given this prime location, something special should have been built here.

I like how it does just blend in and doesn't take away from the GPO or other historical buildings on the street

This one needs a dozen or so more levels as is it's just blends in with the other mediocre crap of City Central

Agree with this. Also, if the Travelodge Hotel and offices at 42-56 Franklin Street both go ahead too, that will be quite a dense area of the city.

I also agree. I remember reading through some of the early planning documents for the overall City Central development and one of the key design philosophies was for the new buildings around the GPO to be simple and elegant in form providing a foil to the heritage detail of the GPO when viewed from Vic Square in particular. On that measure this building is reasonably successful IMO

Great pic Norman, you can see the brackets for the signage on the top levels (south eastern corner) too.

Whats going on with the windows on the same corner levels below?

Think of it as an enclosed balcony. Those windows can be opened via shutter, allowing an indoor/outdoor space.

For me this is the best of the city central buildings so far, simply due to the quality and reflectiveness of the glazing 8) The ATO building second, and ANZ House third (those windows filled with blinds just horrible).

Nice to see that one of the few buildings in the CBD that is covering the concrete western wall probably didn't need to thanks to the proximity of its neighbour but a nice aesthetic touch nonetheless.

All it takes for a better building is glass, height and a bit of imagination. From the long week end - 263 Spencer St Melbourne. 42 stories office building under construction.
