THIS is the kind of building I'd have liked to see occupy the corner of Waymouth and KW Street/s.

Not that I'm against its location but how good would this look on the corner of KWS and South Terrace (opposite the old Optus Building and VUE, where Sealink is)?!

Couldn't agree more. I think there used to be a position at state government level- like design commissioner or something similar. The intent was that they would perform a similar role to what you are talking about. Wasn't living in the country at the time so am a little hazy on the details sorry.

Agree that this looks great. Hopefully it will inspire a similar standard of building, and hopefully in some more prominent locations across the CBD.

Yep, i'm on board here too. Very impressed with the design.

South Terrace is starting to move along nicely, can't wait to see it in another 5 years.

Chief Architect. Dissolved position in SA now I believe.

Most other states still have this worthwhile role.

The CA didn't so much critique individual DAs, instead published meaningful rules & guidelines and stood firm against bad ideas...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I am pretty sure we still have the city architect, Tim Horton was the Commissioner for Integrated Design, this is the position that was scrapped a few years ago.

We still have a pre-lodgement design review process led by the Office for Design and Architecture, in turn headed by the Government Architect who then advises the DAC on the quality of design.

I think the primary difference between this and the former Integrated Design Commission is that the commission was at arms-length independent from the government whereas ODASA sits within a government department (first DPC now DPTI).

The renders aren't bad and I'm looking forward to progressing the design of these buildings once they're fully approved.

Sadly however the new proposal is a mere shadow of what was initially proposed for the site last year. Budget, rather than planning approvals was the problem. The original proposal was for three much taller towers (including second tallest building in Adelaide), with a level of architectural merit we rarely get to see here. Unfortunately real estate values in SA are too low to justify the build cost that can be sustained on the east coast. The Melbourne-based developers initially didn't seem to realise this rather obvious point.
This is only stage 1. the developers own the land either side of this development as well.

Yes. But Stage 1 was going to be 27 storeys.
