Two large containers were dropped into the beer garden at the end of December, and they have been packing up gear.
Now there is an auction for a bunch of stuff from the restaurant. https://www.mgs.net.au/auction/viewauction.html?a=8476

Is there any new news about plans for the development?

The Advertiser wrote:AN apartment building and hotel complex will tower over the former Publishers Hotel as part of a $90 million plan lodged with the State Government.

Victorian-based developer The Punvec Group has lodged an application with the State Commission Assessment Panel to build two, 19-storey towers, at the 2112sq m Franklin St site.

The 150-room hotel would face Franklin St and 96 apartments would be built in the tower behind.

The developer plans to retain the existing Publishers Hotel building – which is more than 100 years old and located between Tatham and Cannon St – as an entrance to the new hotel.

Existing brick warehouses at the site would be retained to create a “podium” connecting the two towers and were likely to include retail offerings, a bar, function centre, pool and gym.

Quite like this. Seems unlikely now though to happen for a while.

That 'jagged' side looks bad, they could improve that I reckon.
The other side, quite like it oddly, but could be let down by materials/finish. Although they could improve that as well, to make it seem less like one huge chunk that sticks out.

Now would be ideal time to build - construction companies would be likely be fighting for work.
By the time this one gets planned, approved, demolition, build & fitout we are talking about quite a while - COVID hopefully would be over.
After months of lockdowns i think people are going to be eager to get out and about - also think people will likely be travelling locally/interstate rather than a mad rush for overseas and especially cruiseships.

Hope it gets up and adds to our growing density does not look too bad. We do however needs some poking the 150m mark soon...

An interesting development. I like how the existing warehouse building will be incorporated in this design, so I think the street level design is great. The towers themselves will really depend on the materials used, but I do like those semi-perforated walls on the northern building. The angular triangles in the southern building I'm not so sure on.

There seems to be a great deal of retail in this development. Hopefully the market can support this.

SCAP (planning commission) has given approval for this project.

From In Daily
Go-ahead for Publishers Hotel tower development

A former wine bar and the home to the Stock Journal will be redeveloped to make way for two 19-storey towers.

The State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) gave Victoria-based developer The Punvec Group the green light for its two 68-metre-tall buildings last week – one housing a hotel and the other residential apartments.

As part of the development, the Publishers Hotel – the original Franklin Street home to the newspaper The Stock Journal – will become the entrance to a 150-room hotel tower.

The more than 100-year-old Publishers Hotel, previously a wine bar, is set to retain its existing façade.

It was sold earlier this year after closing its doors in December.

That article is incorrect on one detail: the Publishers Hotel on Franklin St will be demolished and replaced with the new hotel façade. However, the brick warehouse façades down the side streets will be admirably retained.

I quite like this proposal, so I hope it happens.

The Advertiser wrote:Plans to build two towers on the former Publishers Hotel site in the CBD have been shelved, with the developer behind the proposal listing the property for sale.

Melbourne’s Punvec Group had been planning a $90m project comprising two 19-storey buildings – a 150-room hotel on Franklin Street and a second tower with 96 serviced apartments behind it.

The company won planning approval for the project in October last year.

However international property firm JLL started marketing the site on Tuesday as a “unique opportunity for developers to acquire prime real estate” in the CBD.

Punvec Group chairman Rupinder Brar said strong demand for Adelaide real estate had prompted the decision to sell.

“We were getting so many calls – the Adelaide market is hot and people were asking us if we would sell,” he said.

“The hotel market will be back (from impact of COVID-19) by the time it’s built. Our planning permit on the ground floor meant someone could set up a jazz bar or something like that – Franklin Street and the streets behind have lots of cool bars and restaurants.

“Let’s see what we get and if we don’t sell then we will do the construction.”

I actually think this proposal had more chance of succeeding if it was a standard apartment building, not hotel and serviced apartments.

The Adelaide CBD hotel market is at saturation point with more coming, Hyatt and Wyndam, though that is expanding the underserviced luxury end of the spectrum.

That advertiser article is hysterical. It's not "shelved", it's a flip. Then the journo gets sucked further in and even starts selling the damn thing in the article.

I count 30 floors on that. Another 100m+ tower?
