Heard a whisper that the cinemas may reopen as Hoyts, not sure when though.
Would be a pity to see the facility not being utilised so hopefully its true.

Highly doubt this. I'm on a national cinema forum and there has been no discussion of this but rather than most cinemas are winding back operations in SA and considering Hoyts already have plans for out at Hollywood Plaza, I don't see this ever happening.

Why would Hoyts open up at Hollywood Plaza when they have a cinema complex five minutes down the road at Parabanks/Salisbury?

The nearest Hoyts to Arndale is like 20 minutes away at Norwood, the other closest cinemas are the Reading at West Lakes.
The stupid move would be to open at Hollywood and not at Arndale.

If Hoyts take it over and renovate it, with the wider reclining seats for example, and the centres management add a couple of eateries adjacent and accessible to/from the cinemas, it would do quite well.

It was touted as part of a redevelopment of Hollywood Plaza, but like I said, Hoyts are not in the market to expand, like most cinema chains they're winding back operations nationally but in particular here in SA. Any expansions we can expect would be from Wallis or Palace Nova, and with the Burnside Village extensive delayed and 88 O'Connell still in the works, I wouldn't hold my breath that either chain will be expanding anytime soon.

Hoyts (and Armada) have confirmed that Hoyts will be opening at Arndale in June.

Hoyts are currently recruiting staff for Arndale.

Well it took a while but good to hear it's happening.

I would assume they would be doing this - would be awkward opening up a Hoyts that looks like a Greater Union :D

Leave those antics to Foodland :D

They're refurbishing it, from the carpets to the seats to the front shop to the candy bar.

That's fantastic news.

Hoyts is my favourite cinema brand. You basically have an almost identical experience to Gold Class at about half the price!

Arndale will probably be my closest cinema very soon too.

Wondering if some upgrades to Foodland may be about to start, a little bit slower now of course.
The massage shop next door relocated a while back and the former Bendigo Bank that has been used for a few different things over the last 12 months or so have now been boarded up as has the inside of Foodland that adjoins those shops. The small alley way between Foodland and The Reject shop has also been closed off.

Foodland is getting a renovation finally.
Looks like a new entrance is also being built next to it on the bus interchange side.

Seems that Foodland might have exits from the checkouts (like woolies) to the new walkway that will join up to the existing mall, assuming they will close up the existing mall entrance and bus interchange side doors, Pharma Save will also be opening on the opposite side of the walkway from Foodland.

3 parcels of land at the back of Arndale bordered by Gray Street, First Avenue, The Salvation Army building and the car park / bus stop access road are up for sale.

The loss of the car park next to the Salvos will be felt by the local driving instructors and learner drivers mostly.

Hopefully they build some 4-6 level mixed use. Ground floor retail and upper levels residential apartments, with an improvement to the bus interchange to be more then just a bunch of bus shelters.
Shame it doesn't include the salvos store getting bulldozed.
