Aren't they exactly the same as the existing 4000 class units? Promote that the new units have started arriving to give that light at the end of the tunnel for Gawler line users sure, but why are they spending half the press release pretending these are a brand new design as well?

Apparently now it has USB chargers.

The existing units have recently been retrofitted with USB chargers too. For all intents and purposes the new units will be identical to the existing units.

As have the 3000 class. Plus they seem to be getting new grey flooring like the 4000s. Yay.

Compared to other cities around the world, our trains are slow to accelerate. Is there a reason for this? Could the 4000 class trains accelerate faster?

I think they can, if memory serves they don't for safety reasons, on account of all our level crossings, especially the pedestrian ones at either end of most of our ancient stations.

Electrics accelerate and decelerate faster than diesels. In fact they probably outperform the diesels in every aspect.

Except diesel consumption. The EMUs definitely fail on that particular metric

Test trains are apparently operating as part of the Park Terrace rail crossing in Salisbury.

Part of a project update sent out this week:
...

As part of this project, the Park Terrace, Salisbury road level crossing will be temporarily closed to undertake testing of the new signalling system. This will include running test trains intermittently within the rail corridor.

Location: works will be undertaken within the rail corridor. To ensure the works can be undertaken safely, the Park Terrace road level crossing will be intermittently closed to all traffic while works are carried out.

When: works will be undertaken on Sunday, 10 October 2021, weather permitting to minimise the impact to traffic during peak times.

Hours of work are between 8am and 8pm and the level crossing will be intermittently closed between 2pm and 8pm. Each closure within this period will last for approximately 30 minutes.

...

What you can expect: works will involve making changes to the signalling system at the level crossing, with test trains running intermittently within the rail corridor. Please pay attention when using the dedicated pedestrian crossings and look out for oncoming trains. The work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses as much as is practically possible.

...
From this I take it the test trains will be on Sunday.

Diesel. The overhead and associated electrical works are progressing but are not yet ready for energisation.

The work at Park Terrace yesterday was confined to the ARTC track at the level crossing. Work on the ATRC is needed to accommodate the 3 new automated pedestrian crossings at Brown St and Chidda.

FYI the overhead wires aren't even up around North Adelaide station (as from 2 days ago), so there won't be much testing of electric trains going on
