The State Government has again delayed the return of the Tonsley train service for the third consecutive month

THE State Government is saying the Tonsley train service will “resume next month”, for the third month in a row.

Services are now expected to resume mid-May after a closure spanning almost two and a half years.

What was the point of spending money upgrading and electrifying the line then?

That is pathetic.

What they should be telling people is that there currently isn't enough rolling stock to support a higher frequency timetable, but more trains are being delivered soon.

I went and checked out the Clovelly Park n Ride today. It is *huge*, 600 spaces. Its separate to the tafe car park too. On sturt road there is digital signage saying how many spaces are left.

With 600 spaces in the park and ride its clear that they intend to service the line with better frequencies.

Too many negative comments above ! Thank you Adelaide Now readers......
This (surely) is merely stage 1 of a larger plan.
When Adelaide Metro receives more electric trains then perhaps the Tonsley line can become an all-stopper into the city, allowing Seaford trains to all be express.
Then maybe frequencies and weekend service can be increased...
Then an extension to Flinders University with a decent bus interchange in the Sturt triangle, terminating some southern suburbs bus routes here instead of clogging up South Rd.
Adelaide public transport improvements.....one small step at a time......the money has run out...we will just have to be smarter in the future.

Ps.Mods...please delete this thread and move the posts to the 'Upgrade and Electrification of the Adelaide Suburban Network" where they should have been posted in the first place.

If there are enough trains for a 30 minute peak frequency, how can lack of trains be the reason the off peak service is only hourly?

Good point :-)

The problem is lack of government funds for operational purposes. Extra services are due to be funded by the city car park tax I believe.

Seems like a fair deal, the amount of car parks in the Adelaide CBD is entirely excessive, no other state has such a large percentage of the city as multi-story carparks. Guess where the uber rich Adelaide City Council gets most of it's money from ? Yup they own most of the car parks.

Probably because all the other mainland state capitals have much better train services.

Rates?
Yup they own most of the car parks.
The car parks they own charge by the hour, so have quite a high turnover. Commuters are more likely to use the private car parks.

When they ordered the new electric trains they ordered enough both for the Seaford line and the Gawler line, then they were trying to reduce the order because the Gawler line electrification was not going ahead, now they claim they don't have enough ???
